Job Description:
The Director of Pharmacy Services is responsible of oversight of the adult ambulatory pharmacy infusions areas and the for the medication dispensing operations in the clinics including the pharmacy regulatory compliance for the Tennessee Oncology clinics. The Director sets goals and provides strategic direction for the pharmacy infusion services. The Director also works closely with Tennessee Oncology leadership to ensure pharmacy infusion efforts are coordinated across the various areas of the enterprise.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Oversees and leads the pharmacy service teams, including Oncology Drug Regimen Team (ODRT), Clinic Pharmacist (ClinPharmd), and Clinic Drug Inventory Management (CDIM).
- Develop, direct, and oversee the training for the Chemotherapy Prep Technicians (CPTs).
- Works collaboratively with nursing, medicine and operations leaderships to set direction and manage operations of the clinics. Serves as liaison between pharmacy and medical staff, nurses and other professional staff.
- Develops, implements, and ensures compliance with the departmental and organizational policies and procedures for the clinics and admixture teams. Also ensures compliance with all institute standards, state/federal regulatory agencies and accreditation bodies related to clinic medication management.
- Collaborates with professional staff to develop and coordinate quality improvement efforts.
- Participate in and lead many departmental and interdepartmental committees, as requested.
- Responsible for reviewing and trending KPIs and reporting any variances to the SVP of Pharmacy.
- Coordinated operational and clinical pharmaceutical care responsibilities when requested.
- Review/follow-up safety reports in collaboration with the Medication Safety Officer and Director of Nursing and serve as an active member of the Safety Committee.
- Oversees personnel decisions for pharmacy service team members including hiring and disciplinary actions. Work with SVP of Pharmacy on departmental budgets, salaries and position control.
- Responsible for annual evaluations and counseling and/or disciplinary processes/corrective action.
- Assures successful realization of goals, implementation and sustainment of projects and initiatives to optimize workflow efficiencies, ensure patient care/satisfaction and regulatory standards are met.
- Develop and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and operational data to evaluate team performance and identify opportunities for process improvement.
- Establish and maintain clear operational structures and performance standards for reporting teams to ensure accountability and consistent achievement of organizational goals.
- Identify training and development needs and coordinate appropriate resources to support team competency and professional growth.
- Lead and conduct routine staff and leadership meetings, including selected Executive Meetings.
- Miscellaneous duties as assigned requested and/or required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Ability to communicate well with all levels of the organization including Executive Leadership and Physicians
- Knowledge of QOPI & USP standards is Preferred
- Exceptional oral and written skills
- Prioritization and organization of work under stress and time constraints
- Ability to prevent and resolve intradepartmental and interdepartmental problems
- Excellent knowledge of Microsoft products including Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Access
- Ability to multi-task and oversee multiple projects simultaneously
- Knowledge of OncoEMR and Centricity a plus
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- Doctorate of Pharmacy degree or equivalent
- Successful completion of a PGY1 and/or PGY2 residency specializing in oncology with two (2) years of Oncology clinical pharmacy experience or five (5) years of Oncology clinical pharmacy
- 10+ years of pharmacy experience with 4 years of pharmacy management experience.
- Board Certification is preferred (BCOP,BCSCP, etc)
- Current, active and unrestricted Tennessee Pharmacy licensure.
- Oncology Experience is preferred
