ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: · Orders wholesale stock in order to maintain adequate supplies of essential drugs. · Periodically orders directly through manufacturers as needed to maintain stock or take advantage of significant product price reductions. · Receives wholesale shipments on a daily basis, and stores products with accuracy. · Stays abreast of hospital-wide drugs nearing expiration or requiring re-order. · Keeps familiar with all Pharmacy contracts and ensures compliance is met. · Keeps pharmacy staff informed of any changes to drug availability and status of drug shortages. · Performs any other duties necessary to promote the smooth functioning of the Pharmacy Department and maintains adequate drug stores within the hospital. · Keeps pharmacists and pharmacy director informed of abnormal use of items. · Communicates appropriately and effectively to support the organization. · Ensures that drug items are appropriately billed to various areas or patients. · Ensures pharmacy inventory is maintained at appropriate levels in a cost-conscious manner to promote availability of items included in the Formulary. · Processes transfers and discharges according to established departmental procedures. · Updates and maintains pharmacy item/charge master according to established finance policy and procedures including pricing methodology. · Updates purchase orders (POs) in computer systems to ensure appropriate medication billing and inventory management in a timely manner. · Establishes appropriate par levels for medications based on historical usage, hospital changes in hours/services provided and other factors with assistance of pharmacy staff. · Delegates inventory assignments and tasks to staff members as appropriate. · Assures that expired medications are removed from the pharmacy inventory and stored properly. · Provides prompt and courteous service to external and internal customers of the department. · Assists Pharmacists in maintaining an accurate medication profile for each patient receiving medications within the institution, according to department and hospital policies and procedures. · Assists Pharmacists in managing incoming telephone calls to ensure proper triage of calls. · Completes required hospital programs in a satisfactory manner. · Accurately prepares medications for Pharmacist review before being dispensed. · Delivers medications to patient care areas within appropriate time frames. · Performs the tasks involved with the preparation and labeling of IV admixtures and the associated record keeping. · Packages dry orals, liquid orals and small volume injectables in unit-of-use containers using a combination of mechanical equipment and manual procedures. · Assists pharmacists in ensuring that drug storage locations are maintained in an appropriate manner, e.g., floorstock, automated dispensing cabinets, medication rooms, crash carts, etc. · Assists in maintaining the cleanliness and order of the pharmacy department. · Utilizes appropriate safety and infection control practices. · Maintains confidentiality regarding patients and all aspects of care. · Participates in educational activities, staff meetings and quality initiatives. · Maintains skills as demonstrated through competency testing. · Assists in training and orienting new personnel or students to the departmental services and programs. · Other duties as assigned.

Job Description

JOB SUMMARY: Acts as the primary purchaser of medications for the Pharmacy Department. Orders stock from wholesaler or other vendors on a daily basis and maintains the department’s inventory in an organized and cost-effective manner. Prepares medications for patients under direction of a registered Pharmacist. Responsible for following established organization and departmental policies, procedures and guidelines. Responsible for monitoring medication rooms, emergency costs, and automotive dispensing cabinets. Actively supports the missions, goals, and philosophy of OSS Health.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION:

Education

· High School diploma or GED required.

· Certification as a Pharmacy Technician preferred.

Qualifications:

· Inventory Management experience required, preferred 2-3 years of experience. 

· Previous Pharmacy Technician experience preferred.

· Must possess the ability to effectively and efficiently make use of time and resources.

· Must have strong planning and organizational skills.

· Must have strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.

· Must possess sufficient computer skills.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Orders wholesale stock in order to maintain adequate supplies of essential drugs.

· Periodically orders directly through manufacturers as needed to maintain stock or take advantage of significant product price reductions.

· Receives wholesale shipments on a daily basis, and stores products with accuracy.

· Stays abreast of hospital-wide drugs nearing expiration or requiring re-order.

· Keeps familiar with all Pharmacy contracts and ensures compliance is met.

· Keeps pharmacy staff informed of any changes to drug availability and status of drug shortages.

· Performs any other duties necessary to promote the smooth functioning of the Pharmacy Department and maintains adequate drug stores within the hospital.

· Keeps pharmacists and pharmacy director informed of abnormal use of items.

· Communicates appropriately and effectively to support the organization.

· Ensures that drug items are appropriately billed to various areas or patients.

· Ensures pharmacy inventory is maintained at appropriate levels in a cost-conscious manner to promote availability of items included in the Formulary.

· Processes transfers and discharges according to established departmental procedures.

· Updates and maintains pharmacy item/charge master according to established finance policy and procedures including pricing methodology.

· Updates purchase orders (POs) in computer systems to ensure appropriate medication billing and inventory management in a timely manner.

· Establishes appropriate par levels for medications based on historical usage, hospital changes in hours/services provided and other factors with assistance of pharmacy staff.

· Delegates inventory assignments and tasks to staff members as appropriate.

· Assures that expired medications are removed from the pharmacy inventory and stored properly.

· Provides prompt and courteous service to external and internal customers of the department.

· Assists Pharmacists in maintaining an accurate medication profile for each patient receiving medications within the institution, according to department and hospital policies and procedures.

· Assists Pharmacists in managing incoming telephone calls to ensure proper triage of calls.

· Completes required hospital programs in a satisfactory manner.

· Accurately prepares medications for Pharmacist review before being dispensed.

· Delivers medications to patient care areas within appropriate time frames.

· Performs the tasks involved with the preparation and labeling of IV admixtures and the associated record keeping.

· Packages dry orals, liquid orals and small volume injectables in unit-of-use containers using a combination of mechanical equipment and manual procedures.

· Assists pharmacists in ensuring that drug storage locations are maintained in an appropriate manner, e.g., floorstock, automated dispensing cabinets, medication rooms, crash carts, etc.

· Assists in maintaining the cleanliness and order of the pharmacy department.

· Utilizes appropriate safety and infection control practices.

· Maintains confidentiality regarding patients and all aspects of care.

· Participates in educational activities, staff meetings and quality initiatives.

· Maintains skills as demonstrated through competency testing.

· Assists in training and orienting new personnel or students to the departmental services and programs.
