GENERAL SUMMARY The Sylvan Teacher is responsible for creating a positive personal learning experience for students by teaching students using Sylvan program materials. Using the program materials, the teacher creates balanced and robust learning experiences for students. The Sylvan Teacher evaluates student progress on each assignment, communicates this progress, and works with Center staff to ensure learning is personal for each student. Registered apprenticeship is an industry-driven, high-quality career pathway where employers can develop and prepare their future workforce; and individuals can obtain paid work experience, classroom instruction, and a portable nationally recognized credential. The Vermont Department of Labor Registered Apprenticeship Program for Electrical and Plumbing assists in setting up structured, yet flexible training programs designed to meet the specific needs of Vermont employers through on-the-job learning and related instruction. Apprentices are required to complete 144 hours of classroom instruction for each year of their apprenticeship. What is the difference between a Mathnasium Instructor and a traditional Tutor? In a traditional tutoring setting, tutors have to teach off of whatever their student brings to them that night (homework, test review, etc). It is the tutors responsibility to plan the best way to help the student. At Mathnasium, all students are a part of an ongoing program and their curriculum is provided by Mathnasium. This removes the stress of scheduling tutoring sessions and planning lessons from the tutor. DESCRIPTION Sylvan Learning is the industry leader in providing supplemental education to children in pre-kindergarten through 12th grade. We are seeking smart, dynamic individuals to work with our high school students on preparing for the SAT and ACT. Individuals with experience coaching students in the SSAT, ISEE, HSPT, or college essay are also encouraged to apply.
