In the Academic Center of Excellence (ACE), the Tutor provides tutorial services to students, one on one or in small groups at a Community College.  Incumbents provide this support in a specific learning unit or center such as science, technology, language arts or business administration.  The tutor may also be involved in the set up, maintenance and operation of labs. Example of Job Duties: Under the direction of the Director of the Academic Center for Excellence (ACE) or other administrator, the Tutor accountable for providing assistance to faculty and students in assigned academic areas through effective performance in these essential functional areas: Providing individual and group tutoring. Assisting students in carrying out assignments, including giving supplemental instruction in the academic discipline being applied. Overseeing and guiding assigned student workers in their assistance to students. Observing and providing information to faculty on student performance and on those requiring special faculty instruction. Proctoring student exams. Setting up, arranging and testing lab equipment, apparatus and materials. Adapting equipment and materials to specific learning objectives set by faculty. Planning and preparing equipment and materials for future lab sessions. Performing routine cleaning and maintenance of lab equipment. Shipping and receiving supplies and equipment. The nursing programs at all 18 campuses seek to hire RN tutors. The RN tutors will work with students in both the ASN and PN programs. The tutors will work with the students throughout the course of the program over the next three years. The intent is to assist students with both nursing course work and improve NCLEX-RN and NCLEX-PN pass rate outcomes. Provide subject-specific content to help students. Clarify course content. Utilize listening and questioning strategies as the primary tutoring method to diagnose student needs and monitor progress.
