Assisting students in carrying out assignments, including giving supplemental instruction in the academic discipline being applied. Overseeing and guiding assigned student workers in their assistance to students. Position Summary:

Hiring Range: $14.00

This position provides tutoring support to Hillsborough College students in person on the Brandon Campus.

Job Duties:

  • Works closely with students to assess their strengths and weaknesses, tailoring lessons to meet individual learning needs. This may involve clarifying concepts learned in class and providing additional resources or projects as needed.
  • Prepares for sessions by reviewing lesson plans and/or relevant materials, ensuring they are well-equipped to teach the subject matter effectively.
  • Monitor student progress, provide feedback to students and communicate with the students about their development.
  • Creates a positive and supportive learning environment, encouraging students to develop critical thinking skills and confidence in their abilities.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Tutors should have a clear understanding of the subjects they help with and possess strong communication skills. Prior custumer service experience is preferred but not required.
  • Ability to work closely with your students, determining their strengths and weaknesses and how they learn best. This helps you plan your sessions, as you get to know your pupils and what teaching methods work well for them.
  • Ability to identify topics that need to be worked on with a particular individual or group, using a mixture of resources to improve their understanding of a subject. By creating innovative ways, adapted for individual needs, to help students gain knowledge and skills in a supportive and encouraging learning environment.

Required Qualifications:

Associates degree or High School diploma or a GED equivalent and six month related experience.
