FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS: What is the pay? The pay level varies depending on experience, educational background and other factors. How many hours per week will be required? Hours will vary depending on candidates time availability and student demands for services. Where does tutoring occur? All tutoring takes place in The Otis Hawkins Center for Academic & Personal Excellence located inside Farrior Hall on campus. Hours of operation are below. Fall and Spring: Monday- Thursday 8am – 11pm, Friday 8am – 5pm and Sunday 4-10pm. Summer A: Monday- Thursday 8am – 9pm and Friday 8am – 3pm. Summer B: Monday- Thursday 8am – 10pm, Friday 8am – 3pm, Sunday 6-9pm. Can I tutor if I have another job on campus? Yes. The University Athletic Association is a separate entity from UF. Candidates must complete UAA HR paperwork and attend a new tutor orientation even if they are a UF employee. How will I be notified if I am considered for a tutoring position? Candidates will be contacted via e-mail if their qualifications match with our current tutor needs. Note: If candidates do not hear from us, it means their skills are not needed for the current semester. There is no need to resubmit an application since all applications will be placed in a file for future consideration. What happens if I am selected to be a tutor? If selected, candidates will be contacted by the Strategy Program Learning Specialists. Candidates will then attend a UAA tutorial orientation and also required to attend a mandatory compliance and new hire orientation. POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

College Prep Tutors work specifically with students enrolled in Santa Fe remedial courses. The three courses offered are Remedial Writing, Reading, and Math. Tutors can choose to tutor in one or more areas.

  • Demonstrate the ability to motivate and provide academic support for remedial courses to student-athletes
  • Act professionally at all times and serve as a positive role model
  • Have the willingness to comply with UAA, NCAA and UF rules
  • Attend mandatory trainings
  • Maintain thorough knowledge of what constitutes a violation of the rules
  • Report concerns about students to the Learning Specialist(s) and/or Academic Counselor
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, colleagues, and students
  • Show reliability with time commitments

MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
  • A Bachelor's degree or higher in English, Math, Education or related area

Where does tutoring occur?

All tutoring takes place in The Otis Hawkins Center for Academic & Personal Excellence located inside Farrior Hall on campus. Hours of operation are below.

Fall and Spring: Monday- Thursday 8am – 11pm, Friday 8am – 5pm and Sunday 4-10pm.

Summer A: Monday- Thursday 8am – 9pm and Friday 8am – 3pm.

Summer B: Monday- Thursday 8am – 10pm, Friday 8am – 3pm, Sunday 6-9pm.

Can I tutor if I have another job on campus?

Yes. The University Athletic Association is a separate entity from UF. Candidates must complete UAA HR paperwork and attend a new tutor orientation even if they are a UF employee.

How will I be notified if I am considered for a tutoring position?

Candidates will be contacted via e-mail if their qualifications match with our current tutor needs.    

Note: If candidates do not hear from us, it means their skills are not needed for the current semester. There is no need to resubmit an application since all applications will be placed in a file for future consideration.

What happens if I am selected to be a tutor?

If selected, candidates will be contacted by the Strategy Program Learning Specialists. Candidates will then attend a UAA tutorial orientation and also required to attend a mandatory compliance and new hire orientation. During the orientation, candidates will learn about all tutorial procedures.
