Reporting to the Principal Investigator, the part-time grant supported Grade Enhancement Mentor (GEM)/tutor position is responsible for providing workshops, small groups, and individual instruction, and working closely with the Department of Human and Life Sciences faculty to promote appropriate academic support. The Mathematics GEM must be able to provide support for students in all Mathematics courses. Essential Job Functions: Develop and conduct math and other appropriate workshops for students; develop instructional materials in mathematics. Meets with students on a regular basis to clarify learning problems and improve study skills through one or more of the following techniques: Facilitation of effective study methods in reviewing class material and predicting test questions. Discussion of the class text. Facilitate tutee's formulation of topics and ideas for their class assignments. Facilitate methods for problem solving. For each applicable course, utilizes the current course syllabus, textbook and supplemental materials as approved by the applicable faculty.
