Ensure the site achieves and demonstrates compliance to relevant health & safety regulatory requirements. Manage occupational health & safety programs. Ensure Safe Work Practices are effectively implemented including verification by audit and assessment. Serve as a primary site subject matter expert for Safe Work Practices. Oversee identification, evaluation and protection against risk factors. Review safety, fire protection systems, design of facilities, equipment and processes. Coordinate with site partner resources to ensure emergency response and security plans are in place, complied with, and trained on. Maintain relationships with local authorities and mutual aid first responders. Develop and lead programs to drive improvement in employee engagement and safety culture. Manage contractor safety program at the site. Review both resident and non-resident contractor Health & Safety performance and management systems and leads continual improvement efforts. Coordinate with medical resources and site leadership to oversee occupational injury and illness case management, health and wellness programs, and substance abuse program. Required BS in related field AND 3+ years of Occupational Safety Leadership experience in a manufacturing environment.  OR  7+ years of Occupational Safety Leadership experience in a manufacturing environment. Knowledge of and ability to interpret health and safety regulations and standards, including OSHA and NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) Knowledge of emergency response operations. Experience with development and implementation of safety procedures and practices. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Celanese is seeking a hands-on, proactive Occupational Safety Manager for our Bay City facility. This role is vital to fostering a culture where people safety comes first and human performance principles are at the core of how we operate.

The ideal candidate is not just a strategic thinker, but a visible leader in the field—actively engaging with employees, identifying risks before they become incidents, and driving practical, sustainable safety solutions. This position requires a strong presence, a passion for continuous improvement, and the ability to influence and collaborate across all levels of the organization.

This onsite role is located at FM Road 3057, Bay City, Texas 77404.

Responsibilities:
  • Site leader for occupational health, safety, security, and fire protection requirements in the design, operation, and maintenance of facilities.
  • Ensure the site achieves and demonstrates compliance to relevant health & safety regulatory requirements.
  • Manage occupational health & safety programs.
  • Ensure Safe Work Practices are effectively implemented including verification by audit and assessment.
  • Serve as a primary site subject matter expert for Safe Work Practices.
  • Oversee identification, evaluation and protection against risk factors.
  • Review safety, fire protection systems, design of facilities, equipment and processes.
  • Coordinate with site partner resources to ensure emergency response and security plans are in place, complied with, and trained on.
  • Maintain relationships with local authorities and mutual aid first responders.
  • Develop and lead programs to drive improvement in employee engagement and safety culture.
  • Manage contractor safety program at the site.
  • Review both resident and non-resident contractor Health & Safety performance and management systems and leads continual improvement efforts.
  • Coordinate with medical resources and site leadership to oversee occupational injury and illness case management, health and wellness programs, and substance abuse program.

Required

  • BS in related field AND 3+ years of Occupational Safety Leadership experience in a manufacturing environment. OR 7+ years of Occupational Safety Leadership experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of and ability to interpret health and safety regulations and standards, including OSHA and NFPA (National Fire Protection Association)
  • Knowledge of emergency response operations.
  • Experience with development and implementation of safety procedures and practices.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrate passion for continuous improvement of employee engagement and safety culture.
  • Computer skills.
  • Industrial Hygiene practices knowledge.
  • Process Safety Management knowledge.
  • Self-starter, self-motivated, multitasker
  • Required to have a strong presence in the field/on the floor.

Desired

  • Safety certifications and training (CSP, OSHA, etc.)
  • Work experience in petrochemical plant operations or safety.
  • Experience managing, developing, or updating site safety programs
