ATC Healthcare Metro Detroit is currently seeking a qualified Occupational Therapist for an opening at Woodland Center Correctional, Whitmore Lake Hours: Mon-Fri- 8a-430p Pay: $42 hourly/weekly pay JOB SUMMARY Provides a full range of therapy activities and techniques for the rehabilitation of mentally ill and/or mentally-disabled prisoners, within the specific discipline of occupational therapy. This position requires a person with skills and ability to provide various occupational therapy assignments used in the therapeutic treatment of mentally ill/disabled prisoners within the Department of Corrections. This position is a member of an interdisciplinary treatment team assessing the need for, devising and interpreting occupational therapy techniques and treatment interventions. The position has the responsibility of case management duties for an assigned group of prisoners. JOB DUTIES Plans, conducts, and supervises occupational therapy programs on and off the unit. Such activities may include needlework, sewing, painting, cooking, ceramics, work situations, woodworking, and metal working, consistent with professional training to evaluate and improve the mentally ill and or mentally disabled prisoner’s level of functioning. Evaluates mentally ill and/or mentally disabled prisoners needs by reviewing electronic medical record documentation and observing and evaluating prisoners. Orders and maintains necessary materials, equipment, and supplies for the occupational therapy program. Coordinates the occupational therapy program with treatment provided by other treatment team members. Documents therapeutic occupational activities and groups on appropriate forms in a timely manner as required by policy, procedure, or at the direction of the unit chief. Documents in the EHR appropriately. Utilizes EPM scheduler Completes Activity Therapy Assessments upon intake with a change in level of care as required by policy, procedure, or at the direction of the unit chief. Determines prisoner functioning levels, strengths, weaknesses, and problems that interfere with the prisoner’s ability to function in activities of daily living. Provides supportive counseling as necessary. Designs goals, objectives and specific occupational therapy activities and interventions to assist in overcoming or adapting to limitations caused by the mental illness and/or mental disability resulting in rehabilitation of skills needed to function in daily living. Responds or reports verbally to the Treatment Team about all evaluations. Demonstrates abilities in evaluation, treatment planning, individual and group therapy and crisis intervention as part of the clinical supervision required of the Unit Chief. Meets every 30 days (minimum) with prisoners assigned for case management to review and coordinate services. Assists in the development of treatment plans and develops treatment plan reviews for those prisoners assigned by the unit chief.\ Documents in the COMS appropriately. Utilizes COMS scheduler EDUCATION Possession of a bachelor’s degree in occupational therapy. LICENSURE Registered by the American Occupational Therapy Association and current, unrestricted license in the state of practice, if the practice is regulated in the applicable state. EXPERIENCE Two years of professional experience providing therapeutic habilitation and rehabilitation services equivalent to an Occupational Therapist, including one year equivalent to an Occupational Therapist 10. CREDENTIALS CPR as required by client facility; health and other screening tests as required by specific facilities and state regulations. ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS Various client facility settings; possible exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and other potentially infectious materials. REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Complies with ATC policies/procedures. Complies with client facility policies/procedures. Documents accurately and completely. Maintains confidentiality relative to patient care and facility practices in accordance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). Communicates information effectively to appropriate personnel. Evaluates and establishes goals based on patient's current level of functioning and potential for improvement. Plans for the patient's discharge, prepares discharge summaries and instructions. Provides patient care in a non-judgmental, non-discriminatory manner that considers cultural diversity and age appropriateness so that autonomy, rights, and dignity are preserved. May teach new skills or retrain patient in once familiar daily activities that have been lost due to illness or injury, in accordance with Organization policy. 10. May fabricate splints and instruct patient in the use of various types of adaptive equipment to improve function. 11. May train patient in the use of prosthetic and/or orthotic devices. 12. Maintains appropriate clinical records, clinical notes, and reports to the physician any changes in the patient’s condition. Submits these records in accordance with Organization policy. 13. Participates and contributes in the HHA’s quality assessment and performance improvement program and HHA-sponsored in-service training, case conferences, and other meetings as required by Organization policy to ensure coordinated and comprehensive plans of care for the patients of the Organization. 14. Identifies patient and family/caregiver needs for other home health services and refers as appropriate. 15. Instructs patient’s family/caregiver and other Organization health care personnel in patient’s treatment regime when indicated and appropriate. 16. Supervises Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants according to organization policy and state regulations. 17. When therapy is the only skilled service, instructs, supervises and evaluates home health aide care every two (2) weeks. 18. Participates in discharge planning for patient. JOB SUMMARY

Provides a full range of therapy activities and techniques for the rehabilitation of mentally ill and/or mentally-disabled prisoners, within the specific discipline of occupational therapy. This position requires a person with skills and ability to provide various occupational therapy assignments used in the therapeutic treatment of mentally ill/disabled prisoners within the Department of Corrections. This position is a member of an interdisciplinary treatment team assessing the need for, devising and interpreting occupational therapy techniques and treatment interventions. The position has the responsibility of case management duties for an assigned group of prisoners.

JOB DUTIES

Plans, conducts, and supervises occupational therapy programs on and off the unit. Such activities may include needlework, sewing, painting, cooking, ceramics, work situations, woodworking, and metal working, consistent with professional training to evaluate and improve the mentally ill and or mentally disabled prisoner’s level of functioning.
Evaluates mentally ill and/or mentally disabled prisoners needs by reviewing electronic medical record documentation and observing and evaluating prisoners.
Orders and maintains necessary materials, equipment, and supplies for the occupational therapy program.
Coordinates the occupational therapy program with treatment provided by other treatment team members.
Documents therapeutic occupational activities and groups on appropriate forms in a timely manner as required by policy, procedure, or at the direction of the unit chief.
Documents in the EHR appropriately. Utilizes EPM scheduler
Completes Activity Therapy Assessments upon intake with a change in level of care as required by policy, procedure, or at the direction of the unit chief.
Determines prisoner functioning levels, strengths, weaknesses, and problems that interfere with the prisoner’s ability to function in activities of daily living.
Provides supportive counseling as necessary.
Designs goals, objectives and specific occupational therapy activities and interventions to assist in overcoming or adapting to limitations caused by the mental illness and/or mental disability resulting in rehabilitation of skills needed to function in daily living.
Responds or reports verbally to the Treatment Team about all evaluations.
Demonstrates abilities in evaluation, treatment planning, individual and group therapy and crisis intervention as part of the clinical supervision required of the Unit Chief.
Meets every 30 days (minimum) with prisoners assigned for case management to review and coordinate services.
Assists in the development of treatment plans and develops treatment plan reviews for those prisoners assigned by the unit chief.\
Documents in the COMS appropriately. Utilizes COMS scheduler

EDUCATION

Possession of a bachelor’s degree in occupational therapy.

LICENSURE

Registered by the American Occupational Therapy Association and current, unrestricted license in the state of practice, if the practice is regulated in the applicable state.

EXPERIENCE

Two years of professional experience providing therapeutic habilitation and rehabilitation services equivalent to an Occupational Therapist, including one year equivalent to an Occupational Therapist 10.

CREDENTIALS

CPR as required by client facility; health and other screening tests as required by specific facilities and state regulations.

ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS

Various client facility settings; possible exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and other potentially infectious materials.
