Responsibilities Supervises Recreational Behavioral Instructors (RBIs). Assists in maintaining the department budget. Maintains and orders necessary supplies for the department. Serves as Recreation representative on hospital committees as needed. Uses Microsoft Office applications as needed. Plans activities that promote self-confidence, independence, activities of daily living and resolution of presenting problems. Develops and implements therapeutic recreation activities for clients. Maintains charts, records, and files as assigned. Remains informed about local, state and federal standards and regulations pertaining to the provision of services to clients and their families. Assists staff and/or clients with appropriate discharge plans. Maintains all required documentation concerning client and program areas (i.e., Assessments, Progress notes, Critical Incident Reports, Observation forms). Follows policies and procedure guidelines specifically and remains informed about all additions or changes. Assists in preparation and helps maintain compliance with Department of Health, Medicaid and The Joint Commission standards. Attends regular staff meetings and/or acknowledges reading provided materials. Attends weekly physician led treatment team meetings (as needed). Takes advantage of professional growth opportunities and in-service training. Physically capable of restraining clients if necessary (must be trained in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention and follow policy guidelines concerning seclusion/restraint). Provides care and supervision of clients. Implements an individualized behavioral plan of care for each client as designated in his/her treatment plan (i.e. utilizes Teaching-Family Model to teach to target skills). Ensures that a sufficient quantity of staff is available for any approved outings, as well as ensuring that all other materials and plans are intact. Maintains order and cleanliness of all Recreational Therapy areas. Requires the physical capability to perform tasks that are necessary while working in Recreational Therapy (i.e. hiking, swimming etc.) Plans and frequently attends outings to assist in successful, therapeutic outcomes. Performs other related tasks as requested by the Director of Recreational Therapy or Administrator. Qualifications Requires a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in the Therapeutic Recreation field. Maintains certification as a recreational therapist (CTRS) through the NCTRC. Must be physically capable of receiving verbal and written directions. Must be physically capable of sitting and standing for several hours at a time. Must have good auditory, visual and olfactory ability. Ability to use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools or controls. Must be able to maintain effective audio, visual discrimination and perception needed for making observations, communicating with others, reading and writing, and operating office equipment and other treatment equipment. Must be able to use a telephone to communicate verbally and a computer to communicate through written means, to review information and enter/retrieve data, to see and read characters on a computer screen, chart or other treatment items. Job Description

Responsibilities 

Supervises Recreational Behavioral Instructors (RBIs).   

Assists in maintaining the department budget.  

Maintains and orders necessary supplies for the department.  

Performs departmental audits on documentation, treatment services, and quality assurance/performance improvement measures.  

Assists Director of Recreational Therapy in in-servicing RBIs. 

Serves as Recreation representative on hospital committees as needed.  

Uses Microsoft Office applications as needed.  

Plans activities that promote self-confidence, independence, activities of daily living and resolution of presenting problems.  

Develops and implements therapeutic recreation activities for clients.  

Maintains charts, records, and files as assigned.  

Remains informed about local, state and federal standards and regulations pertaining to the provision of services to clients and their families.  

Assists staff and/or clients with appropriate discharge plans. 

Maintains all required documentation concerning client and program areas (i.e., Assessments, Progress notes, Critical Incident Reports, Observation forms). 

Follows policies and procedure guidelines specifically and remains informed about all additions or changes. 

Assists in preparation and helps maintain compliance with Department of Health, Medicaid and The Joint Commission standards. 

Attends regular staff meetings and/or acknowledges reading provided materials. 

Attends weekly physician led treatment team meetings (as needed). 

Takes advantage of professional growth opportunities and in-service training. 

Physically capable of restraining clients if necessary (must be trained in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention and follow policy guidelines concerning seclusion/restraint). 

Provides care and supervision of clients. 

Implements an individualized behavioral plan of care for each client as designated in his/her treatment plan (i.e. utilizes Teaching-Family Model to teach to target skills). 

Ensures that a sufficient quantity of staff is available for any approved outings, as well as ensuring that all other materials and plans are intact. 

Maintains order and cleanliness of all Recreational Therapy areas. 

Requires the physical capability to perform tasks that are necessary while working in Recreational Therapy (i.e. hiking, swimming etc.) 

Plans and frequently attends outings to assist in successful, therapeutic outcomes. 

Performs other related tasks as requested by the Director of Recreational Therapy or Administrator. 

Qualifications 

Requires a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in the Therapeutic Recreation field. 

Maintains certification as a recreational therapist (CTRS) through the NCTRC. 

Must be physically capable of receiving verbal and written directions. Must be physically capable of sitting and standing for several hours at a time. 

Must have good auditory, visual and olfactory ability. Ability to use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools or controls. 

Must be able to maintain effective audio, visual discrimination and perception needed for making observations, communicating with others, reading and writing, and operating office equipment and other treatment equipment. 

Must be able to use a telephone to communicate verbally and a computer to communicate through written means, to review information and enter/retrieve data, to see and read characters on a computer screen, chart or other treatment items. 

Must be willing and able to work with all patients of Methodist Family Health.
