Responsible for the effective and efficient delivery of rehab services; adherence to an established plan of care, department and patient(s)' schedule, and timely documentation of services. Assess and evaluate therapeutic/rehabilitative/functional status.  Participate in patient placement and in the development of the total plan of care. Provide purposeful and skilled interaction care. You will use procedures and techniques to produce a change in condition/function consistent with the physician's plan of care. Observe and report patient's reaction to treatment and changes in patient's condition. Clean, maintain, identify, and report the needs for repair of equipment as necessary. Qualifications/Skills/Educational Requirements Graduate of an American Physical Therapy Association accredited school with bachelors, masters or doctorate degree in Physical Therapy. Maintains current registration with the National Board for Certification in Physical Therapy. Fluently read, write, speak, and understand the English language. Maintains active Physical Therapy Certification in the state. Maintains current certification in BLS for HealthCare Providers (in accordance with American Heart Association guidelines) (optional). Ability to lift at least 50 lbs on a regular basis and ability to help patients who require physical assistance. Minimum requirement: 2 years clinical experience, and/or 1 year clinical experience directly in acute care, skilled nursing and/or AL/MC.

F.    Reporting to physician patient's reaction to treatment or changes in condition. 2.     Initiates physical therapy program and instructs other personnel and/or family/caregiver members in certain phases of physical therapy with which they may work with a patient, as well as instructing them as to the goals of the physical therapy program for the patient by participating in case conferences. 3.     May train patient in the use of prosthetic device. 4.     Identifies patient and family/caregiver needs for other home health services and refers as necessary. 5.     Prepares and submits clinical and progress summaries based on the attainment of goals. 6.     Participates in discharge planning for patient. 7.     Prepares and submits a clinical progress summary based on the attainment of goals as directed by Organization policy. 8.     Provides physical therapy consultation to home families/caregivers when indicated. 9.     Provides inservice education programs for nursing organization personnel as needed. 10.  Participates in peer consultation process. 11.  Supervises physical therapy assistants according to organization policy and state regulations. 12.  When therapy is the only skilled service, instructs, supervises and evaluates home health aide care every two (2) weeks. The above statements are intended to be a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by incumbents of this job. The incumbents may be requested to perform job related tasks other than those stated in this description. Qualifications 1.     Possesses a Position Qualifications degree from a baccalaureate or Master's program in physical therapy approved by an accredited organization. 2.     Licensed to practice as physical therapist within the state, if applicable. 3.     Two years of appropriate experience as a physical therapist. Community/home health experience is preferred. 4.     Demonstrates good verbal and written communication and organization skills. 5.     Possesses and maintains current CPR certification. 6.     Must be a licensed driver with an automobile that is insured in accordance with state/or organization requirements and is in good working order.

They help to bridge the gap between therapists and patients in the areas of exercise instruction/supervision, modality application, and patient flow in the clinic. A physical therapy aide is expected to be able to multitask in the areas of patient supervision/instruction, schedule-keeping (insofar as keeping a patient on task is concerned), clinic cleaning (tables, stools, equipment, etc.), laundry washing and folding, and alerting the therapists to reported changes in the patient’s condition. In addition, helping to maintain clinic inventory by alerting management to supply needs is of utmost importance. Although most of our aides are people interested in eventually going to graduate school to become physical therapists, some are already Certified Athletic Trainers, Certified Personal Trainers, Certified Massage Practitioners, and some hold Master’s Degrees in Exercise Science and other areas. Formal education as noted above is NOT required to become a physical therapy aide, but if you have a passion for helping people, want to learn a lot about human anatomy, manual therapy, and exercise intervention, then our clinics are the place for you! Our physical therapy aides are indispensable to us; however, it needs to be made clear that we are a highly professional organization, and under no circumstances does an aide ever progress a patient, treat a patient with manual therapy techniques, or otherwise touch a patient except for instructional purposes as it relates to exercise. What's it like to work with KARE? Some typical responsibilities include:

  • Provide evaluations and treatment interventions within the scope of practice established by law and professional code of ethics.
  • Responsible for the effective and efficient delivery of rehab services; adherence to an established plan of care, department and patient(s)' schedule, and timely documentation of services.
  • Assess and evaluate therapeutic/rehabilitative/functional status.  Participate in patient placement and in the development of the total plan of care.
  • Provide purposeful and skilled interaction care. You will use procedures and techniques to produce a change in condition/function consistent with the physician's plan of care.
  • Observe and report patient's reaction to treatment and changes in patient's condition.
  • Clean, maintain, identify, and report the needs for repair of equipment as necessary.
  • Puts patient service first: ensures that patients and families receive the highest quality of service in a caring and compassionate atmosphere which recognizes the individuals' needs and rights.
  • Instructs patients in the skills and techniques required for participation in functional activities and evaluates patient progress, attitudes, and behavior as related to rehabilitative potential.
  • Performs routine reexamination as needed/required to modify/progress plan of treatment.
  • Report any changes in patients' physical condition and/or behavior.
  • May require experience with evaluating and treating patients with memory impartment if assigned to memory care areas of community.

Qualifications/Skills/Educational Requirements

  • Graduate of an American Physical Therapy Association accredited school with bachelors, masters or doctorate degree in Physical Therapy.
  • Maintains current registration with the National Board for Certification in Physical Therapy.
  • Fluently read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
  • Maintains active Physical Therapy Certification in the state.
  • Maintains current certification in BLS for HealthCare Providers (in accordance with American Heart Association guidelines) (optional).
  • Ability to lift at least 50 lbs on a regular basis and ability to help patients who require physical assistance.
  • Minimum requirement: 2 years clinical experience, and/or 1 year clinical experience directly in acute care, skilled nursing and/or AL/MC.
