Job Description: The Role: Relief Charge Nurse (RN) on 2 West Provides direct patient care in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice and with the policies, values, and mission of the organization. The Opportunity: MaineGeneral is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Registered Nurse (RN) to join the 2 West team as a Relief Charge Nurse on the night shift. This full-benefits eligible role combines hands-on patient care as a floor nurse with leadership responsibilities, providing an opportunity to grow as a clinical leader while making a difference in the lives of oncology patients. The successful candidate will receive comprehensive cross-training in oncology nursing and chemotherapy administration, along with focused leadership development to prepare for occasional relief charge nurse duties. This is a 36-hour position on the night shift (7p-7a). You will work three 12-hour shifts per week with weekend and holiday rotation required. The Work: Provide high-quality, patient-centered care as a staff nurse on the oncology unit during the night shift. Administer medications, including chemotherapy (training provided), and monitor patient responses to treatment. Collaborate with the healthcare team to develop and implement individualized care plans. Step into the Relief Charge Nurse role as needed, overseeing unit operations, coordinating staff assignments, and ensuring efficient workflow. Serve as a resource and mentor to fellow nurses and support staff during the shift. Maintain accurate patient records and ensure compliance with hospital policies, procedures, and safety standards. Participate in ongoing training in oncology care, chemotherapy administration, and leadership skills. The Role: Relief Charge Nurse (RN) on 2 West

Provides direct patient care in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice and with the policies, values, and mission of the organization.

The Opportunity:

MaineGeneral is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Registered Nurse (RN) to join the 2 West team as a Relief Charge Nurse on the night shift. This full-benefits eligible role combines hands-on patient care as a floor nurse with leadership responsibilities, providing an opportunity to grow as a clinical leader while making a difference in the lives of oncology patients. The successful candidate will receive comprehensive cross-training in oncology nursing and chemotherapy administration, along with focused leadership development to prepare for occasional relief charge nurse duties.

This is a 36-hour position on the night shift (7p-7a). You will work three 12-hour shifts per week with weekend and holiday rotation required.

The Work:

  • Provide high-quality, patient-centered care as a staff nurse on the oncology unit during the night shift.
  • Administer medications, including chemotherapy (training provided), and monitor patient responses to treatment.
  • Collaborate with the healthcare team to develop and implement individualized care plans.
  • Step into the Relief Charge Nurse role as needed, overseeing unit operations, coordinating staff assignments, and ensuring efficient workflow.
  • Serve as a resource and mentor to fellow nurses and support staff during the shift.
  • Maintain accurate patient records and ensure compliance with hospital policies, procedures, and safety standards.
  • Participate in ongoing training in oncology care, chemotherapy administration, and leadership skills.

You Have:

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Maine, or ability to obtain one in a timely fashion
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of nursing experience, preferably in an acute care setting (oncology experience is a plus but not required)
  • BLS certification required
  • Strong clinical skills with a commitment to patient safety and quality care
  • Demonstrated leadership potential or prior experience in a charge nurse or supervisory role (preferred but not required)
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities
  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills
  • Willingness to work night shifts and participate in cross-training for oncology and chemotherapy administration
