For more than 55 years, Family Health Centers of San Diego's (FHCSD) mission has been to provide caring, affordable, high-quality health care and supportive services to everyone, with a special commitment to uninsured, low-income and medically underserved persons. FHCSD is one of the top 10 largest federally qualified health centers (FQHCs) in the country. Job Roles Accurately charts diagnosis of providers, assisting the front office as needed with charts, recalls, billing, x-rays and filing. Assists both the dentist and the hygienist chair-side as needed. Provides accurate translation of communication between patients and providers regarding treatment and information. Completes all required documentation accurately, promptly, and thoroughly in accordance with department standards; in addition, documentation complies with patients' insurance requirements. Maintains instruments and equipment, sterilization, tray set-ups, and unit stocking-preparations to facilitate efficiency, quality care with patients, and provider satisfaction. Maintains equipment, including x-ray equipment, sterilizers, vacuum systems, dental units, and handpieces. Uses resources efficiently, practices in a cost-effective manner. Performs DA duties, including instrument processing and sterilization. Takes x-rays that are of good diagnostic quality, acceptable to providers and 3rd party payers. Performs other duties as assigned. Requirements: Certificate of completion from an accredited program for dental assistants or equivalent on-the-job training. Current American Heart Association healthcare provider CPR (BLS) certification required. Dental X-ray Certificate. High school diploma (or GED equivalent). California Dental Board Dental Practice Act and Infection Control certifications are required within 1 year of employment. Traveling between sites and other locations is occasionally required. Must have a valid California driver's license, an automobile, and proof of minimum levels of car insurance as required under California law, although limits of $100,000 are recommended. An acceptable driving record is also required. California law requires all drivers to obtain a valid California driver's license within ten days of establishing residency. Dental Assistant The Dental Assistant performs duties such as: preparing the patient for treatment, assisting the dentist and/or dental hygienist in performing their treatment to the patient, preparing materials and equipment for treatment, and having them ready for the dentist's use, takes x-rays and assists the dentist in laboratory work. Apply Job Type Full-time Description The Dental Assistant reports to the site manager and Assistant Site Manager (if applicable) with clinical oversight from SVP of Dental Services, SVP of Nursing, and Chief Medical Officer. The Dental Assistant is responsible for assisting the dentist(s) and dental hygienist(s) in the direct provision of primary care dental services to patients of the Zufall Health Center (ZHC). The Dental Assistant is also responsible for sterilization, preparation, and inventory control of all instruments and supplies. Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities Serves as dentist's or dental hygienist's chair-side assistant Prepares operatory for patient treatment as per ZHC protocols and the dentist's or dental hygienist's directions Assists patients in resolving minor difficulties, answering their questions, and giving directions to patients as authorized by the dentist or dental hygienist Exposes and develops dental radiographs in accordance with the state regulations and law as well as ZHC directive and protocol Performs independent procedures as delegated and directed by the dentist in accordance with the state regulation and law and ZHC directive and protocol Maintains dental Department equipment in accordance with manufacturer's instructions for use and Dental Department policy and protocol Maintains all Dental Department areas in compliance with Dental Department directives and protocols as well as ZHC policies and procedures relative to infection control, blood borne pathogens, exposure control, and safety issues Maintains all dental department's materials, equipment, and ensures the sterility of all clinical material and equipment in accordance with the products standards, ZHC infection control policies, Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) and The Joint Commission (JC) standards Maintains adequate operatory supplies and compiles a list of individual item shortages for inventory control and ordering purposes Maintains a list of all Dental Department patients, monitors patient flow, and assists the SVPof Dental Services, dentist(s) and dental hygienist(s) in ensuring that all patient records and documents are properly and accurately completed and filed Receives and places work-related telephone calls consistent with professional matters, clinic business and ZHC patient care needs Assist with various clinical and administrative functions of the center as appropriate.
