In association with the itinerant dental program, the incumbent may also travel to rural field clinics to perform these duties. Additional job responsibilities for a Dental Assistant II: Dental Assistant II is highly skilled in assisting the integrated dental care teams and specialty dentists and performs various high-level clinical support duties. This position has two (2) levels designed to provide progressively more responsible and independent work experiences. Progression between job levels is based on the demonstrated ability to successfully handle more progressively responsible assignments. Qualifications: SCF programs are established to serve a primary population comprised of Alaska Native people who are affiliated with Cook Inlet Region, Inc. (CIRI) and Alaska Native and American Indian people within SCF's geographical service area. Employees should have a thorough understanding of the cultures and the needs of this population. Such knowledge is critical to ensure the achievement of SCF's Vision of, "A Native Community that enjoys physical, mental, emotional and spiritual wellness" and SCF's Mission of, "Working together with the Native Community to achieve wellness through health and related services": High School diploma OR GED. Completion of SCF's Dental Assistant Training Program; OR completion of a Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) approved dental assisting program; OR six months of outside dental assistant experience. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required. ACLS, NRP, ATLS, ALSO and PALS as required for specialty and any certification relating to the scope of practice as required. Additional Qualifications for Dental Assistant II: Meets all requirements of Dental Assistant I in addition to the following: Two (2) years of experience performing Dental Assistant duties; OR demonstrated proficiency as a Dental Assistant I at SCF. Native Preference: Under P.L. 93-638, as amended, the company pursues a policy of Native preference in hiring, contracting and training. SCF Human Resources must receive certification before applicants receive preference. Employee Health Requirements: Compliance with our Employee Health procedure is a condition of SCF employment. Responsibilities Assists Dental Officer in dental specialty sections: restorative, oral surgery, endodontics, periodontics, prosthetics, and examinations Retrieves patient's records and escorts patients to proper dental specialty section; seats and prepares patient for attending Dental Officer Assists Dental Officer by preparing dental instruments, essential materials, drugs, and medications Passes instruments, retracts tissues, irrigates oral cavity, and operates aspirator Observes patient's responses, and assists patient for dismissal from the Dental Clinic Gives instructions for subsequent dental appointments Makes necessary entries on dental treatment records (both electronic and paper records) Prepares dental treatment room for the next patient Assists in the treatment of emergency cases. Applies medication prescribed by a Dental Officer to gingiva to promote healing Fabricates and repairs dental prostheses and appliances under supervision Performs procedures pursuant to fabrication and repair of complete denture prostheses and removable partial prostheses • Uses acrylic resins and porcelain as basic materials Takes radio graphs of patients using digital intraoral and panoramic dental radiography Obtains diagnostic quality periapical, occlusal, lateral jaw, and TMJ radiographs Correctly positions patient and sensor Determines level of radiation intensity to minimize radiation exposure of patients Processes and saves digital radiographs to patient medical records Maintains proper infection control procedures in radiographic techniques Sterilizes contaminated biological waste of dental clinic Places and finishes dental restorations, including bases and liners Make primary impressions and pours casts Selects tooth shade for composite restorations and dentures Maintains accurate sharps and instrument inventories Maintains logs for surface disinfectants, autoclave maintenance, chair filters maintenance, and vacuum pump filters Maintains sterilization logs Requirements Licensed Dental Assistant (Any State) Knowledge of dental procedures, terminology, and instruments. Strong communication skills and the ability to provide excellent patient care. Minimum of 2 year of experience as a dental assistant Possess specialty training from a licensed dentist and/or certification from an accredited Dental Assistant school, training must include dental radiology and radiology safety Travel Requirements Some travel may be required for training purposes or to support various project locations. Summary of Job Responsibilities:

The Southcentral Foundation (SCF) Dental Assistant I-II is responsible for assisting providers, and dental teams in chairside assistance and related duties in all aspects of preventive, restorative, prosthodontic, surgical, endodontic, interceptive orthodontic, and periodontal treatment as provided in general dentistry. In association with the itinerant dental program, the incumbent may also travel to rural field clinics to perform these duties.

Additional job responsibilities for a Dental Assistant II:

Dental Assistant II is highly skilled in assisting the integrated dental care teams and specialty dentists and performs various high-level clinical support duties.

This position has two (2) levels designed to provide progressively more responsible and independent work experiences. Progression between job levels is based on the demonstrated ability to successfully handle more progressively responsible assignments.

Qualifications:

SCF programs are established to serve a primary population comprised of Alaska Native people who are affiliated with Cook Inlet Region, Inc. (CIRI) and Alaska Native and American Indian people within SCF's geographical service area. Employees should have a thorough understanding of the cultures and the needs of this population. Such knowledge is critical to ensure the achievement of SCF's Vision of, "A Native Community that enjoys physical, mental, emotional and spiritual wellness" and SCF's Mission of, "Working together with the Native Community to achieve wellness through health and related services":

  • High School diploma OR GED.
  • Completion of SCF's Dental Assistant Training Program; OR completion of a Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) approved dental assisting program; OR six months of outside dental assistant experience.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required. ACLS, NRP, ATLS, ALSO and PALS as required for specialty and any certification relating to the scope of practice as required.

Additional Qualifications for Dental Assistant II:

Meets all requirements of Dental Assistant I in addition to the following:

  • Two (2) years of experience performing Dental Assistant duties; OR demonstrated proficiency as a Dental Assistant I at SCF.

Native Preference:

Under P.L. 93-638, as amended, the company pursues a policy of Native preference in hiring, contracting and training. SCF Human Resources must receive certification before applicants receive preference.
