CareArc is accepting applications for a full-time Dental Assistant to join our dental team in Emporia. The Dental Assistant performs duties which assist all dental providers in the care and treatment of patients as well as occasional duties in reception, inventory and records. Primary Functions Assist dentist & hygienist during examination and treatment of patients. Prepare patient, set up instrument trays and materials for treatment, and assist dentist & hygienist during dental procedures. Take and record medical and dental histories and vital signs of patients. Establish reason for visit and instruct patient on preparation for dentist's examination. Stock and prepare operatory according to dentist's specifications. Assist with various prosthetic and restorative procedures to include impressions, evacuation, retraction, cementation and homeostasis. Monitor proper infection control techniques. Maintain supply and inventory for operatory. Review patient charts for completeness, as well as order processing for referrals, x-ray, etc. Provide back up for co-workers when needed. Inform scheduled patients of any necessary schedule changes. JOB SUMMARY: Provide chair side assistance to the dental providers during examination and treatment of patients. Prepare patients and operatory for dental treatment including but not limited to preparing and arranging the dental instruments, restorative cement, materials and medications on the chair side tray. Sterilize instruments and equipment by using autoclave or chemical disinfectants as per CORNERSTONE infection control policies and OSHA guidelines. Take, develop, mount and file x-rays. Provide post-operative instructions and follow-up appointments for patients. Perform laboratory procedures by fabricating models from impressions taken by the dentist. Monitor patient's prosthesis by logging cases leaving CORNERSTONE and returning from Dental Lab. Provide appointments for patients when prosthesis returns. Maintain orderly, well stocked and clean treatment rooms and lab. Assists the front office with patient registration, filing and pulling charts and making confirmation appointment calls as directed by the Dental Office Coordinator. Provide intake procedures, such as to obtain patient's past and present medical histories, vital signs and record correct information in patient's dental record. Position Description: The Dental Assistant prepares and organizes tools needed by dentists to work on a patient. Additionally, the Assistant shall perform many tasks, ranging from patient care and taking x rays to recordkeeping and scheduling appointments. The dental assistant is primarily responsible for assisting the dentist during dental procedures. The assistant must clean and organize the dental operatories to maintain consistent stock and ensure that necessary supplies are readily available. He/she must setup the operatory according to expected parameters prior to the each procedure, and clean and disinfect the operatory after the procedure. He/she is also responsible for cleaning, packaging, sterilizing, and restocking instruments. The dental assistant also helps maintain the clinic in a clean and presentable state. Position Qualifications: Education: High School diploma or equivalent required. Formal training in an accredited Dental Assisting program is strongly preferred. On-the-job training may be available. Experience: Experience in dental assisting is preferred, but there is no experience requirement Licenses, Certifications: Current BLS certification Specialized Skills: Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively with co-workers and patients. Must be self-motivated and reliable. Must be attentive and willing and able to learn new skills. Position Responsibilities and Essential Functions: Escort patient from waiting area to operatory once check in is complete Obtain vital signs once patient is seated and comfortable in dental chair Prepare patients and the work area for treatments and procedures. Sterilize dental instruments and equipment according to ADA recommended practices and placing for easy access. Prepare the dental operatory for use by making sure all items are stocked and organized Assist the dentist during procedures, including passing and receiving instruments, retrieving supplies, and using saliva ejector and HVE to maintain isolation and keep patient's mouth dry. Instruct patients in proper oral hygiene as appropriate Obtain radiographs, alginate impressions, and complete lab tasks, under the direction of a dentist. Schedule patient appointments. Competencies: Professional attitude at all times- Dental assistants routinely work with patients who are in pain, are in a hurry, or simply don't like being at a dental office. They must maintain a professional and friendly demeanor at all times. Communication Skills- Dental assistants should be able to explain concepts clearly, such as dental hygiene concepts, proper care of dental appliances, proper use of toothbrushes, floss, etc. He/she must be able to communicate effectively with co-workers so that the team can operate efficiently, stay on schedule, and avoid conflicts resulting from lack of communication. Staying focused- While the dentist is working on a patient, the dental assistant should be able to pay close attention and anticipate the dentist's needs. Attention to detail is important. Organization and Time Management- The dental assistant is responsible for instruments being sterilized and available for use when needed. He/she must be organized and able to manage their time well in order to complete tasks within time constraints. Competency Tests/Evals- Will take a yearly competency test (on anniversary of hire date) or more often if deemed necessary. This may be done with the dentist as well as with the office manager. Physical Demands and Work Environment: Dental assistants wear safety glasses, surgical masks, protective clothing, and gloves to protect themselves and patients from infectious diseases. They also must follow safety procedures to minimize risks associated with x-rays Dental assistants work with their hands and fingers throughout the day, which may be difficult for those with arthritis or joint inflammation Dental assistants may be required to lift boxes or other items weighing up to 25 lbs as part of normal daily activities Should be able to sit and/or stand for extended periods while working with patients Supervisory: This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
