Our Dental Assistants provide chairside assistance to dentists and promote direct patient care as it relates to dentistry. Position Description: The Dental Assistant prepares and organizes tools needed by dentists to work on a patient. The assistant must clean and organize the dental operatories to maintain consistent stock and ensure that necessary supplies are readily available. He/she must setup the operatory according to expected parameters prior to the each procedure, and clean and disinfect the operatory after the procedure. He/she is also responsible for cleaning, packaging, sterilizing, and restocking instruments. The dental assistant also helps maintain the clinic in a clean and presentable state. Position Qualifications: Education: High School diploma or equivalent required. Formal training in an accredited Dental Assisting program is strongly preferred. On-the-job training may be available. Experience: Experience in dental assisting is preferred, but there is no experience requirement Licenses, Certifications: Current BLS certification Specialized Skills: Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively with co-workers and patients. Must be self-motivated and reliable. Must be attentive and willing and able to learn new skills. Position Responsibilities and Essential Functions: Escort patient from waiting area to operatory once check in is complete Obtain vital signs once patient is seated and comfortable in dental chair Prepare patients and the work area for treatments and procedures. Sterilize dental instruments and equipment according to ADA recommended practices and placing for easy access. Prepare the dental operatory for use by making sure all items are stocked and organized Assist the dentist during procedures, including passing and receiving instruments, retrieving supplies, and using saliva ejector and HVE to maintain isolation and keep patient's mouth dry. Instruct patients in proper oral hygiene as appropriate Obtain radiographs, alginate impressions, and complete lab tasks, under the direction of a dentist. Schedule patient appointments. Staying focused- While the dentist is working on a patient, the dental assistant should be able to pay close attention and anticipate the dentist's needs. Attention to detail is important. Organization and Time Management- The dental assistant is responsible for instruments being sterilized and available for use when needed. He/she must be organized and able to manage their time well in order to complete tasks within time constraints. Competency Tests/Evals- Will take a yearly competency test (on anniversary of hire date) or more often if deemed necessary. This may be done with the dentist as well as with the office manager. Physical Demands and Work Environment: Dental assistants wear safety glasses, surgical masks, protective clothing, and gloves to protect themselves and patients from infectious diseases. They also must follow safety procedures to minimize risks associated with x-rays Dental assistants work with their hands and fingers throughout the day, which may be difficult for those with arthritis or joint inflammation Dental assistants may be required to lift boxes or other items weighing up to 25 lbs as part of normal daily activities Should be able to sit and/or stand for extended periods while working with patients Supervisory: This position has no supervisory responsibilities. OPPORTUNITY

TCCH is growing and actively recruiting Dental Assistants to join our Care Team within the Pasco WIC, Behavioral Health, and Dental Care site. FUNCTIONS

  • Assist in all aspects of dental exams and procedures under the supervision of dentist or Director of Dentistry
  • Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of dental instruments, techniques, and procedures
  • Perform patient care activities in accordance with policies and procedures
  • Perform x-rays and impressions
  • Upkeep all areas of the Dental Department to always ensure high level of cleanliness
  • Obtain clinical privileges if applicable
  • Assist with dental outreach program as directed
  • Follow the organization's exposure control plans and bloodborne and airborne pathogens protocol
  • Demonstrate respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment
  • Work on a team toward surpassing departmental goals and objectives across multiple departments and facilities
  • Promotes positive working relations and works effectively as part of a department/unit intra departmentally to facilitate the department's/unit's ability to meet its goals and objectives
