JOB SUMMARY: Provide care for patients within appropriate scope of legal practice in North Carolina, including prophylaxis, scaling, administration of medicaments and topical agent as trained and legal to do. SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES: Periodontal screening; Periodontal probing; Subgingival exploration for or removal of hard or soft deposits; Sulcular irrigation; Application of sulcular antimicrobial or antibiotic agents which are resorbable; Application of sealants to teeth that do not require mechanical alteration prior to the application of such sealants, provided that a dentist has examined the patient and prescribed the procedure; Application of acid etch materials/rinses; Removal of periodontal dressings; Removal of sutures; Applies dentin desensitizing solutions; Provides patient education on oral, dental, and preventive maintenance; Complies with MAHEC's Corporate Compliance, HIPAA, Confidentiality, Access to Dental and Billing Records, and Risk Management Programs. The Dental Supervisor must be able to utilize the Sterilization Room to process instruments through the proper sterilization process. Must be able to supervise the dental assistants and dental receptionists, and be able to communicate and guide the Dental Providers. The Dental Supervisor must be able to verbal counsel and give disciplinary actions as required. Dental Supervisors must be able to participate in the training of new employees and dental trainees. Must be knowledgeable about dental insurance programs and dental procedure codes in order to make corrections on the encounter forms or be able to answer questions regarding costs of treatment. Must be able to operate the Misys systems or whatever computer systems currently used at Sea Mar Community Health Center. The Dental Supervisor must complete the assignments that pertain to the Quality Improvement activities of the dental department and of Sea Mar Community Health Centers following the current QI Department Calendar (example, chart audits and patient surveys, and health and safety activities). Must be able to keep provider production at goal expectations, and keep production daily reports. The Dental Supervisor must be able to make community relationships to help build the dental clinic (headstart programs, ECAP programs) Must be able to communicate with Regional Coordinator, Dental Director, on any issues clearly and effectively. Education and/or Qualifications: Current DA registration from Washington State required. Must have completed basic courses in dental assisting and office management at an academic institution, such as a Technical Institute or its equivalent. Minimum of three years working experience in a dental office may be considered in lieu of education. Must be current in Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification or comply within one month of employment. Must be able to communicate, read, write in English and have the ability to read and interpret common written materials about dentistry. Experience with EPIC desirable. Must have High School diploma or equivalent. Dental and supervisory experience preferred. JOB DESCRIPTION

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:

Faculty teach department courses and evaluate student performance pursuant to guidelines set by the department and the College. Faculty report to the Department Head within the Academic Unit. Faculty are responsible for preparing lesson plans, teaching aids, and instructional materials or activities for class. Faculty must maintain accurate records on students and submit pertinent data to the department and/or the College.

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:

  • Demonstrates appropriate knowledge of subject;

  • Provides students with appropriate learning materials and expertise in assigned subject(s);

  • Establishes and maintains an organized and disciplined classroom/clinical/laboratory environment;

  • Encourages student participation;

  • Evaluates students' performance based on course learning outcomes;

  • Responds to students and provide students with assistance and guidance;

  • Assists students as faculty advisor and holds office hours;

  • Provides tutorial help to students;

  • Prepares course syllabi, outlines and develops course outcomes;

  • Aligns learning activities with Departmental course outcomes;

  • Serves on departmental, unit, and college committees;

  • Responsible for contributing to and maintaining an inclusive and collaborative College environment;

  • Adheres to all County, College, and Department policies and follow the process as outlined in the Student Code of Conduct;

  • Fulfills all duties as required in the FFECC Collective Bargaining Agreement.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Candidates must be able to demonstrate awareness and sensitivity towards promoting an inclusive and diverse learning environment. Good knowledge of field of specialization; knowledge of or experience in implementing a variety of teaching strategies; awareness of the value of technology as a tool for teaching; experience with computerized student record management; ability to develop educational programs; ability to teach effectively at the college level; initiative and resourcefulness; industrious and dependability; ability to get along well with others; effective communication skills experience teaching a diverse student body; physically capable of performing the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's Degree in area of specialization plus a minimum of 24 hours of appropriate advanced study. Must have had courses in educational methodology, three (3) years clinical experience preferably with periodontal emphasis, active NYS Dental Hygiene License, and current BLS certificate.
