Overview
Job Description
- Assisting in clerking assessment appeals hearings before the Assessment Appeals Board (AAB) and Hearing Officers, ensuring proper flow and adherence to procedures.
- Interpreting and guiding the AAB and Hearing Officers in accordance with Revenue and Taxation Code, property tax rules, and local regulations.
- Preparing and reviewing appeal case files for hearings, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Advising the AAB or Hearing Officer on the validity of appeals and key issues involved.
- Drafting written Findings of Fact (FOF) when required, based on hearing outcomes.
- Collaborating closely with the AAB, management, and County Counsel on appeal matters.
- Finalizing case files post-hearing, verifying all issues are addressed, and recommendations are properly documented.
- Preparing case materials for Board review and approval.
- Assisting with data entry, review, and processing of appeal applications to maintain accurate records.
- Managing file organization, application retrieval, and documentation updates.
- Interacting professionally with the public via front counter and phone to provide excellent customer service.
- A high school diploma or equivalent; some college coursework or relevant experience preferred.
- Strong clerical, organizational, and analytical skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
- Attention to detail and accuracy in document preparation.
- Experience with administrative support, assessments, or government processes is a plus.
- Proficiency in MS Office applications such as Word and Excel.
