Reporting to the Engineering Manager, located in our Denton, TX facility, the Lab Technician, Gas Apparatus conducts test plans and prepares reports for Gas Equipment apparatus (Oxy fuel torches and pressure/flow gas control equipment). The role will support both the development of new products and the sustaining activities of existing lines. Primary Duties Interfaces directly with lab customers to determine customer needs meeting to gather additional data. Plan and prioritize incoming lab requests from customers. Work independently to conduct testing. Records tests, analyses, develops reports and discusses and answers any questions regarding the results to management and customers. Researching and identifying necessary materials and equipment, recommend or design testing methods, and design and construct special lab equipment with minimal supervision. Administer and manage test reports and Industry Standards databases. Interface with outside agencies to ensure compliance for Satellite Lab Certification requirements. Support safety policies and protocol by following all necessary requirements. Clean and maintain testing equipment and testing areas, including recalibration of equipment. Support continuous improvement and 5S activities for lab equipment and testing procedures. As a result of testing analysis, make recommendations in product design and product changes to Engineering and Product Management team. Work with sales team on providing help with events with the Demo Van. Take on a project management role to support various projects as needed. Maintain product regulatory renewal requirements and works with engineering team to ensure products meet requirements. Work with Training Team to aid during training sessions for both internal and external parties. Visit with customers to identify issues, assist with solutions, and strengthen relationships by delivering effective technical explanations and building trust through compliance and standards. Provide support and recommendations to quality team along with advice on corrective actions on discovered problems. Compare competitors and report on new technologies or trends found within the industry. Create purchase orders to support the global R&D team and local model shop and engineering team. Interface with supply chain teams and directly with suppliers to assess products being considered meet ESAB and regulatory standards. Provide insight to internal teams and customers on product functionality and applications to provide recommendations for their needs. Assist with workflow management between model shop and the rest of the engineering team. Other duties as assigned or may be required to support business initiatives. Qualifications Associate degree in Fabrication, Welding or Technical Discipline. Minimum 2 years' experience using a variety of mechanical and electrical test equipment to make measurements including but not limited to pressure, flow, temperature, voltage, current. Demonstrated ability to conduct physical product tests, analyze results, and write technical test reports. Excellent communication and teamwork skills. Strong technical report writing skills using Microsoft Word and Excel. Basic knowledge of statistical data to be used in analysis and conclusions of quantitative measures. Ability to work cross functionally with other departments such as Quality, Warranty, Product Management. Demonstrated ability to learn quickly and work independently or as part of a project team. Demonstrated ability to write standard operating procedures (SOP's) for test protocols. Demonstrated ability to read and interpret engineering specifications and drawings. Demonstrated ability to use a variety of part inspection equipment (hand tools, microscope, CMM experience) Demonstrated ability to diagnose and repair test equipment. Experience with data acquisition and data logging systems, LabView Data Acquisition software. Working Conditions Remains in a stationary position up to 50% of the time and involves additional physical demands such as ascending/descending stairs, walking stooping and standing. Must wear Personal Protective Equipment 'PPE' when working/visiting manufacturing and plant locations. Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery including but not limited to printer, tablets, cell phones. Moves transports, puts, or removes equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.; pushes, pulls products weighing up to 200 lbs. using provided safety tools. May be exposed to varying weather during travel. Install, test for, and maintain cathodic protection devices on gas mains and services, have knowledge of all cathodic protection devices such as test stations, insulators, and anodes, have a general knowledge of krik cells and rectifiers. Inspect contract gas construction as required according to all local, State and Federal codes. Patrol and inspect gas distribution lines and equipment. Locate underground facilities using pipe/cable-locating equipment. Incidental to the responsibilities listed, operate a Company owned vehicle/equipment, operate various air, hydraulic, and electric power tools, and provide for the maintenance of all equipment assigned to him/her. Perform incidental duties such as changing of pressure charts, checking of odorizers, etc. Perform such clerical work as may be needed to provide and maintain the necessary reports and records required by the Company. We are adding Designers at varying experience levels - associates level (entry-level, with training provided), mid-career, and highly experienced designers are all encouraged to apply. The Utility Designer provides new distribution and service designs for customers who need gas and electrical facilities. Provide cost effective designs and first-class customer service while balancing regulations and engineering standards. A successful Utility Designer will be self-motivated, adaptable to change, a strong problem solver and have expert time-management skills with a focus on meeting deadlines. Position Expectations: Act as primary point of contact and liaison between customers, construction and utility providers. Design facilities for new and existing customers according to the customer’s construction standards. Read and interpret multiple types of construction drawings (one lines, mechanical, plumbing, etc.) to determine job scopes. Manage and report on multiple projects from start to finish. Work with area engineers, customers and local division support to meet deadlines. Obtain permits and easements for facilities in accordance with city ordinances, state, federal, and county agencies as required. Execute contracts and agreements in compliance with administrative instructions and regulatory requirements. Actively communicate with customers, vendors, and supervisors on all aspects of individual jobs. Provide cost effective estimates to your customers using standardized documents. Schedule and attend meetings on-site with customers to determine site-specific requirements. Position Requirements: High School Diploma or equivalent required, Associates or Bachelor’s degree in a design, construction, or related field preferred. Proficient user of Microsoft applications including Word, Excel and Outlook. Working knowledge of GIS or similar mapping software is required. Previous utility design experience preferred. Experience working with underground utilities preferred. Experience working in SAP platform preferred. Excellent verbal and written communication skills required; ability to maintain a high level of professionalism when interacting with all customers (internal/external). Must possess and maintain an appropriate and valid Driver’s License for the state in which the primary work functions are performed. Strong customer service skills, with the ability to build relationships. Excellent analytical skills with high-level of accuracy and attention to detail. Ability to prioritize and plan work activities to be effective and efficient. Must be comfortable and effective working in an environment with changing demands, delays and responding to unexpected situations. Ability to maintain and protect confidential information. Position Summary Direct analysts and planners in the development of strategic resource plans, including need assessment, planning, and negotiation for long-term gas supply, transportation, and storage agreements for Xcel Energy to meet LDC gas customer demand and power generation requirements estimated at $2B/year. Negotiate and manage the administration of natural gas transportation and storage contracts to maximize benefits for gas distribution customers, gas fired generation customers, and shareholders. Lead studies of intermittent electric renewable (wind and solar) generation impacts on the natural gas systems to ensure reliable service. Negotiate settlements and testify in upstream pipeline rate cases, tariff filings, and other matters. Essential Responsibilities Direct analysts and planners in the development of XE's gas purchase plan estimated at $2B/year of expenditures. Partner with Gas Supply, Legal, and Regulatory in the implementation of the gas plan the meet the needs of customers, regulators, and other stakeholders. Direct team in forecast design to predict customer needs and prevent loss of gas & electric service to customers. Determine the quantity and variety of transportation and storage contracts held across 12 different geographically dispersed pipeline systems. Determine when to modify or purchase additional transportation and storage capacity services for an evolving, complicated portfolio, estimated at $200M/ year of expenditures. Conceive, develop, and defend extensive regulatory filings to recover the costs related to the $2B annual gas fuel budget. Interface with regulators, intervenors, political or special interest groups, customers, and gas suppliers to obtain consensus, support, and/or regulatory approval of resource plans. Provide written and verbal testimony to state commissions as an expert policy and strategy witness on the Company's behalf. Direct financial analysis of interstate and intrastate pipeline rate cases. Develop strategy and prosecute the pipeline case by preparing written testimony and oral testimony in formal administrative hearings to argue for just, reasonable tariff rates and beneficial services from the pipeline. Pursue settlement of rate cases by building coalitions with other pipeline customers, determining financial assumptions and expected case outcomes with other customers, and negotiating key settlement terms with customers, FERC or state commission staff, and pipeline officials. Serve as the company spokesperson for the larger customer community in these negotiations. Partner with the Gas Supply Manager and Gas Buyer/Traders to evaluate market opportunities and perform analysis on proposed transactions. Coach and develop staff to maintain a high level of expertise in all segments of the natural gas industry, including gas buying, gas production, gas system infrastructure development, long-term gas pricing trends, alternative fuel analysis, and the electric generation operations. Minimum Requirements BS degree in Economics, Finance, Mathematics, Engineering, or closely related field. Master's degree preferred. Equivalent work experience may be accepted in lieu of degree. Minimum of 8 years of natural gas or electric industry experience preferably in resource planning, financial analysis, or regulatory matters. Must have financial analysis skills and advanced written and oral communication skills to prepare testimony and negotiate contracts.
