Job Summary Kairos Power is seeking a highly motivated Instrumentation, Controls and Electrical (IC&E) Engineer with expertise in the development and implementation of instrumentation and control systems for chemical and physical processes to support the Kairos Power fuels program. In this role, you will work within a process and mechanical engineering team to design, construct, commission, and optimize process equipment and automation systems necessary for TRISO particle fabrication. You will also work cross-functionally with facility operations, facility engineers, quality assurance, and environmental, health & safety (EHS) to enable supporting functions. Responsibilities Perform IC&E engineering functions, including development and implementation of process automation control. Develop equipment and instrumentation specifications to enable process control for tanks, vessels, valves, lines, and pumps based on process and operational needs. Prepare and maintain equipment and instrumentation lists and data sheets. Work with the CAD design team and responsible engineers to include cabling, instrumentation, and electrical/interface requirements on skid designs supporting process automation. Interface with vendors and suppliers for procurement of equipment and instruments. Work with the lead Responsible Engineer to develop the equipment commissioning plan, procedures, and test documentation. Coordinate with facility operations to implement, optimize, and sustain TRISO fuel fabrication processes and associated control systems. Provide technical oversight of fuel fabrication processes and incorporate best practices for continuous improvement by applying best practices to improve safety, yield, reliability, maintainability, and operational efficiency. Support process hazard analyses (e.g., HAZOPs, What-If analyses) and participate in design and operational safety reviews. Support troubleshooting of process upsets, equipment failures, and quality deviations during fabrication, commissioning, and operations. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications and Related Relevant Experience Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, or similar discipline. 5+ years performing duties as an IC&E engineer in a chemical, pharmaceutical, industrial, or manufacturing setting. Experience in using PFDs, P&IDs, equipment lists, and utility consumption lists. Experience working with hazardous processes and chemicals and implementing appropriate safety controls. Experience in commissioning new vendor supplied equipment, as well as being able to commission in-house designed equipment. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Capability in using Cause-and-Effect (C&E) diagrams, to inform controls sequencing. Proficient in programing and coding for process automation. Ability to interpret CAD drawings to support IC&E design needs. Proven team player with excellent verbal, written communication/presentation and interpersonal skills. Ability to work with highly collaborative teams. Being able to identify opportunities for improvement of existing equipment. Job Summary 

Kairos Power is seeking a highly motivated Instrumentation, Controls and Electrical (IC&E) Engineer with expertise in the development and implementation of instrumentation and control systems for chemical and physical processes to support the Kairos Power fuels program. In this role, you will work within a process and mechanical engineering team to design, construct, commission, and optimize process equipment and automation systems necessary for TRISO particle fabrication. You will also work cross-functionally with facility operations, facility engineers, quality assurance, and environmental, health & safety (EHS) to enable supporting functions.

Responsibilities

  • Perform IC&E engineering functions, including development and implementation of process automation control.
  • Develop equipment and instrumentation specifications to enable process control for tanks, vessels, valves, lines, and pumps based on process and operational needs.
  • Prepare and maintain equipment and instrumentation lists and data sheets.
  • Work with the CAD design team and responsible engineers to include cabling, instrumentation, and electrical/interface requirements on skid designs supporting process automation.
  • Interface with vendors and suppliers for procurement of equipment and instruments.
  • Work with the lead Responsible Engineer to develop the equipment commissioning plan, procedures, and test documentation.
  • Coordinate with facility operations to implement, optimize, and sustain TRISO fuel fabrication processes and associated control systems.
  • Provide technical oversight of fuel fabrication processes and incorporate best practices for continuous improvement by applying best practices to improve safety, yield, reliability, maintainability, and operational efficiency.
  • Support process hazard analyses (e.g., HAZOPs, What-If analyses) and participate in design and operational safety reviews.
  • Support troubleshooting of process upsets, equipment failures, and quality deviations during fabrication, commissioning, and operations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Related Relevant Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, or similar discipline.
  • 5+ years performing duties as an IC&E engineer in a chemical, pharmaceutical, industrial, or manufacturing setting.
  • Experience in using PFDs, P&IDs, equipment lists, and utility consumption lists.
  • Experience working with hazardous processes and chemicals and implementing appropriate safety controls.
  • Experience in commissioning new vendor supplied equipment, as well as being able to commission in-house designed equipment.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Capability in using Cause-and-Effect (C&E) diagrams, to inform controls sequencing.
  • Proficient in programing and coding for process automation.
  • Ability to interpret CAD drawings to support IC&E design needs.
  • Proven team player with excellent verbal, written communication/presentation and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work with highly collaborative teams.
  • Being able to identify opportunities for improvement of existing equipment.
  • The ability to verify process designs against mechanical designs, in keeping with operational and maintenance interfaces to ensure that systems and facility are optimal from an installation, integration , operational and maintenance perspective.
  • Familiar with process documentation, including PFDs and P&IDs, and how they inform industrial system operations and integration.
  • Strong problem-solving and organizational skills, able to manage multiple priorities in dynamic environments while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Ability to clearly document plans and effectively convey information across engineering, operations, and leadership teams.
  • Ability to be proactive and adaptable.
