Kellogg Foundation (WKKF), Battle Creek Public Schools (BCPS) graduates enrolled as full-time undergraduate students at Grand Valley State University (GVSU) for the WKKF, BCPS Transformation Project. This position is a member of the team providing the intrusive advising, supporting events, programming, and initiatives. This role manages and monitors the project budgets, timeline, and progress toward goals, communicates with grant principal investigators and BCPS administration, collaborates with the evaluation team to maintain research projects, among performing other duties essential to the grant partnership. Individuals from all backgrounds, including from underrepresented groups, are encouraged to apply. Successful candidates must be able to effectively engage with students, colleagues, and community members with a broad range of backgrounds and experiences. Primary Duties: Serves as a representative for the GVSU WKKF BCPS Transformation Project grant on campus and with community partners. Works as part of the support team producing and implementing events, programming, and initiatives. Works on the implementation, evaluation and documentation of all related project efforts. Partners with campus colleagues on events that inform and recruit prospective Battle Creek students to GVSU about the admission process and financial aid. Implements the support for engagements for all incoming first year students who are 1) Battle Creek Public School graduates on the GVSU Allendale campus and 2) recipients of the Pipeline or Bearcat Advantage Scholarship with acclimatization, retention, and graduation by: Implementing an intrusive advising system providing academic and non-academic supports. Co-planning and implementing student events, including but not limited to celebrations of key milestones, orientation, campus fall welcome, and regularly scheduled community building opportunities. Regularly facilitating one-on-one engagements with the FIDAC Pipeline and Bearcat Scholarship program participants on the GVSU Allendale campus and providing support for student retention, security, persistence, and success. Regularly engages with organizations and individuals who provide support for students on campus. Supports other WKKF grant initiatives as needed. Performing regular assessments and monitoring student progress. Providing support to BCPS graduates experiencing academic difficulty. Guiding students towards self-sufficiency on campus and within the community. Connecting with campus resources in an effort to achieve academic success. Educating students on appropriate resources, support services and experiences to facilitate academic and personal success based on individual needs. Supporting recipients of the WKKF BCPS Pipeline Scholarship students with their requirement of at least one professional experience in Battle Creek. Developing further resources and support for the students. Connecting learners from BCPS with the GVSU financial aid division. Regularly engages with organizations and individuals who provide support for students on campus. Performs other duties as required/assigned by leadership. Required knowledge, skills, and abilities: Bachelor's degree required. Demonstrated understanding of student development and developmental advising theories. Strong communication and organizational skills. Ability to work both autonomously and as a member of a team that includes external partners. Proficient in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and Outlook. Demonstrated experience in grants management. Preferred knowledge, skills, and abilities: Master's degree, particularly one in an academic advising related field (College Student Affairs, Adult & Higher Education, Educational Leadership, Counseling, etc.). A minimum of two (2) years of experience working within a K12 and/or higher education setting. At least two (2) years of demonstrated academic advising or related experience in higher. education preferred. Proficient in budgeting and fiscal management, familiarity with Workday and Banner is preferred. Understanding of student transition and success issues, especially with first-generation preferred. Understanding of trauma informed approaches for teaching and advising. Experience with recruitment and orientation of new students preferred. Experience building partnerships with community colleges and other higher education institutions. Familiarity with computer student information systems and web-based records and registration programs (Banner, Degree Works, Navigate, Blackboard, OnBase, etc.) preferred. Working conditions: Normal office environment. Some travel may be required. Salary & Benefits: Salary Range $54,000 - $56,000, commensurate with experience.
