Job Description
Title: Retail Associate - Youth Hire
Location: Kotzebue, AK
Status: Part Time, Temporary
Position Summary:
The Retail Associate serves as the first point of contact for customers and the general public. This role requires a strong commitment to delivering excellent customer service by providing efficient, accurate, and friendly assistance. The Retail Associate is responsible for ensuring each customer has a positive experience and is satisfied with the products and services received.
This position requires maintaining a professional and welcoming image of the company through both in-person and phone interactions. The Retail Associate supports daily store operations, contributes to sales goals, and works collaboratively with the store management team.
This position is temporary and intended for summer youth hire.
Responsibilities:
- Operate a computer-based point-of-sale (POS) system accurately and efficiently.
- Price, stock, and assist with ordering merchandise as needed.
- Maintain cleanliness, organization, and safety of the store and surrounding work areas.
- Provide excellent customer service and support sales efforts to help meet store goals.
- Work collaboratively as a team member to support daily operations and overall store performance.
- Assist with general cleaning of KICL property and grounds.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Basic computer skills and ability to learn KICL-specific systems.
- Retail or customer service experience, including use of credit card transaction systems, preferred.
- Experience with of credit card transaction systems, preferred.
- Ability to safely lift up to 45 pounds.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Approved State of Alaska work permit required for applicants ages 14-16.
Working Environment:

This is a fast paced multi-tasking environment requiring reliable attendance. The employee is exposed to outside weather conditions. Employees are required to work both with a team and individually.

- Required to work standing up, walk, use hands and fingers to operate tools and equipment.
- Speak and listen, both over the phone and in person to customers and co-workers.
- Frequently required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Occasionally required to work in a seated position, climb or balance and taste or smell.
- Regularly lift and/or move up to 30lbs.
- Vision requirements include: close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
