The Data Governance team provides enterprise-wide oversight and enablement to ensure data is properly classified, documented, trusted, secure, and used responsibly. Acting as a bridge across business, engineering, privacy, and security teams, the team develops and operationalizes policies, standards, tooling, and metrics that reduce risk, improve data quality, enable AI, and drive cost accountability. PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES As an Associate Data Engineer on the Data Governance team, you will support the implementation and day-to-day execution of Inmar's Data Governance program. This is a hands-on role focused on building, operating, and improving governance-related data engineering capabilities under the guidance of senior engineers. Governance Enablement & Automation Assist in building and maintaining automated, repeatable processes that implement data governance policies and standards. Support enforcement of required metadata, tagging, and ownership standards across cloud and on-prem data environments. Help embed governance controls into pipelines and platforms rather than relying on manual or ad hoc processes. Metadata, Cataloging & Lineage Publish and maintain datasets in the enterprise metadata catalog, ensuring required fields such as owner, description, classification, and lineage are captured. Assist with lineage documentation and validation for critical datasets and pipelines. Participate in metadata audits and help track adoption and compliance metrics. Data Classification & Sensitive Data Controls Help run and validate sensitive data scans (e.g., PII, PHI, PCI) using approved tools and scripts. Apply and verify data classification and asset tagging standards in alignment with enterprise policies. Support remediation efforts when gaps or inconsistencies are identified. Access Controls & Cost Transparency Support audits and reporting related to data access, ownership, and least-privilege enforcement. Assist with tagging and ownership initiatives that enable cloud cost visibility and accountability. Help maintain dashboards and reports that surface governance KPIs for technical and business stakeholders. Team Execution & Collaboration Follow established Data Governance team standards for communication, documentation, code reviews, releases, and handoffs. Participate in daily standups, Jira updates, PR reviews, and knowledge-sharing activities. Work closely with Data Governance, Data Quality, Privacy, Security, and Data Engineering partners. EDUCATION / QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE Required B.S. in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Engineering, or a related field or equivalent practical experience (1-3 years). Experience with Python or another scripting language. Working knowledge of SQL and experience querying large datasets. Familiarity with ETL/ELT processes and workflow management tools (Airflow, dbt, etc). Familiarity with cloud platforms (GCP or AWS preferred; Azure acceptable). Understanding of core data governance concepts (metadata, quality, classification, access, lineage). Strong attention to detail, organization, and follow-through. Clear written and verbal communication skills. Preferred / Nice to Have Exposure to data governance, metadata, or cataloging tools (e.g., Dataplex, Data Catalog, DLP, BigID). Experience with relational databases (e.g., MySQL, SQL Server, PostgreSQL). Exposure to NoSQL databases. Experience with structured and semi-structured data formats (e.g., JSON, Parquet, Avro). Job Description

The Data Governance team provides enterprise-wide oversight and enablement to ensure data is properly classified, documented, trusted, secure, and used responsibly. Acting as a bridge across business, engineering, privacy, and security teams, the team develops and operationalizes policies, standards, tooling, and metrics that reduce risk, improve data quality, enable AI, and drive cost accountability.

PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES

As an Associate Data Engineer on the Data Governance team, you will support the implementation and day-to-day execution of Inmar's Data Governance program. This is a hands-on role focused on building, operating, and improving governance-related data engineering capabilities under the guidance of senior engineers.

Governance Enablement & Automation

  • Assist in building and maintaining automated, repeatable processes that implement data governance policies and standards.
  • Support enforcement of required metadata, tagging, and ownership standards across cloud and on-prem data environments.
  • Help embed governance controls into pipelines and platforms rather than relying on manual or ad hoc processes.

Metadata, Cataloging & Lineage

  • Publish and maintain datasets in the enterprise metadata catalog, ensuring required fields such as owner, description, classification, and lineage are captured.
  • Assist with lineage documentation and validation for critical datasets and pipelines.
  • Participate in metadata audits and help track adoption and compliance metrics.

Data Classification & Sensitive Data Controls

  • Help run and validate sensitive data scans (e.g., PII, PHI, PCI) using approved tools and scripts.
  • Apply and verify data classification and asset tagging standards in alignment with enterprise policies.
  • Support remediation efforts when gaps or inconsistencies are identified.

Access Controls & Cost Transparency

  • Support audits and reporting related to data access, ownership, and least-privilege enforcement.
  • Assist with tagging and ownership initiatives that enable cloud cost visibility and accountability.
  • Help maintain dashboards and reports that surface governance KPIs for technical and business stakeholders.

Team Execution & Collaboration

EDUCATION / QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE

Required

At Inmar, compensation reflects our belief in integrity, transparency, and the value of individual contributions. The hiring range for this position is:

57,287.25 - 95,478.75 USD Annual

The final offer may vary based on factors such as geographic location, job-related skills, education, certifications, work experience, and other relevant considerations.

Depending on the job level and role, it may include:

  • Annual discretionary bonuses through our Core Company Performance Bonus Plan

  • Equity grants, sign-on bonuses, and other tailored incentive opportunities
