Job Description

Who we are

Summer Health offers access to millions of families in need of on-demand pediatric care. We offer 24/7 text-based access to pediatricians and children's health specialists, because we believe that every family deserves quick, reliable, trusted access to health care. We have over 22M covered lives on our platform, and work tirelessly to expand access to our service.

We have raised over $25M from investors including Sequoia, Lux, 7wire Ventures, GV, Chelsea Clinton’s Metrodora Capital, Pivotal Ventures, Box Group, and others to achieve this goal. We have a culture of excellence and momentum-building, and work in-office to achieve our goals.

We are seeking a clinical leader who will oversee all of Summer Health’s clinical strategy, guide provider excellence, and play a key role in business development and health plan relationships. This individual must be a board-certified pediatrician with a proven track record of leadership in both clinical practice and healthcare innovation.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Group Leadership

  • Lead recruitment, vetting, and hiring of providers using a standardized rubric.

  • Oversee onboarding of new providers, ensuring alignment with Summer Health’s model of care.

  • Act as a trusted liaison with medical group owner, resolving provider concerns and patient complaints.

  • Maintain regular communications with providers and manage workforce performance.

  • Conduct ongoing clinical quality reviews in partnership with the Medical Group Owner.

  • Serve as a backup clinical provider when necessary.

Clinical Model & Quality

  • Develop and lead Summer Health’s clinical strategy, ensuring that Summer Health is delivering best in class care and a modern, innovative care experience

  • Maintain and evolve Summer Health’s clinical guidelines, ensuring clarity on what conditions we do and do not treat.

  • Evaluate and implement new care pathways, diagnostics, and services (e.g., developmental screenings, AI diagnostics).

  • Create clinical protocols to standardize provider decision-making and improve patient outcomes.

Operations & Strategy

  • Advise on provider scheduling, payment models, credentialing, and workforce optimization.

  • Partner with operations, product and engineering to ensure scalable, efficient clinical workflows.

Product & Innovation

  • Serve as the clinical thought partner for product development, ensuring new features enhance—rather than hinder—clinical quality.

  • Lead the clinical perspective in the design of provider-facing tools (e.g., careOS).

  • Assess new product offerings for quality, workflow impact, and regulatory compliance.

Business Development & Partnerships

  • Represent Summer Health in sales meetings, pitch presentations

  • Support new health plan launches by reviewing contracts, defining product offerings, navigating billing guidelines, and managing payer relationships.

Qualifications

  • Required: Board-certified pediatrician.

  • Ideal: Based in New York City (with availability for in-person work 4x per week).

  • 15+ years of clinical experience, with at least 5 years in leadership roles (medical director, CMO, or equivalent) AND 3-5 years of corporate/business experience

  • Strong understanding of pediatric clinical guidelines, digital health, and healthcare operations.

  • Demonstrated experience in health plan relationships, business development, or payer contracting.

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage both clinical and non-clinical stakeholders.

  • Passion for healthcare innovation, technology-enabled care, and improving access for families.
