Effectively uses agency and community resources, to achieve patient and family independence with patient care in the patient's residence.

GENERAL DUTIES

Assessment Skills:

  • Delivers clinically appropriate evaluation and therapy services to patients who present with disorders of communication and swallowing.
  • Evaluates and provides treatment for developmental disorders, clinical dysphagia, Modified Barium Swallow study, speaking valve and oral motor disorders.
  • Delivers clinically appropriate evaluation and therapy services .
  • Ensures evaluations are timely and accurate.

Treatment Skills:

  • Provides treatment to patients referred for Speech Therapy
  • Able to provide Speech Therapy services to patients with a variety of diagnoses
  • Uses appropriate strategies based on patient's age, diagnosis, evidence, and best practice

Documentation:

  • Documents results of Speech Therapy services in the EMR
  • Documentation is completed within timeframes designated by the hospital or program
  • Documentation and charges accurately reflect time spent with the patient

Other Professional Activities:

  • May supervise students, Clinical Fellows, therapy technicians, and volunteers
  • May take an active role in departmental or programmatic activities

EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS

Master's Degree in Speech Pathology

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

American Heart Association Basic Life Support Health Care Provider

Licensed Speech Therapy through the Louisiana Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology.

New graduates must obtain Certification of Clinical Competency by ASHA within one year of hire.
