The Licensed physical therapist assistant is responsible for administering therapeutic procedures or treatments based on the physical therapist's evaluation and plan of care. Contributes to departmental advancement through participation in in-service attendance/presentation as well as through constructive suggestions, participation in planning activities and program development.

GENERAL DUTIES
Demonstrates professional treatment skills:
- Performs and documents treatment based on the short- and long-term goals established by evaluating physical therapist.
- With guidance of the supervising PT, selects treatment techniques and modalities that will facilitate achievement of the goals for all patients.
- Structures the treatment session according to the patient's age, diagnosis, needs, behavioral response and family or caretaker involvement including physical environment, verbal reinforcement/instruction and behavior modification as needed.
- Demonstrates proficiency in various treatment techniques including neurodevelopmental, orthopedic and therapeutic exercise approaches, using equipment and resources available in the department.
- Adjusts treatment according to precautions and contraindications.
- Adjusts daily treatment plan based on assessment of patient's response to treatment and consults physical therapist as needed. * Assessment techniques include range of motion (goniometry), strength (manual muscle testing), tone, physiological response, etc.
- Interprets pertinent information from medical charts, physicians, parents, patient, other Allied Health professionals, school, caretakers, and any others to facilitate treatment. Notifies physical therapist as indicated.
Demonstrates professional documentation skills:
- Completes documentation and submits charges after providing treatment within defined timeline and turns in charges.
- Manages therapy visits and coordinates with PT when a supervisory visit is required (each 6th visit or every thirty days)
Participates in departmental/self-development:
- Provides constructive suggestions for improvement in department operations.
- Acts as clinical instructor for at least one PTA student per year (after first year of experience).
- Demonstrates ethical practice at all times according to standards established by the American Physical Therapy Association and LCMC Health
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support Health Care Provider
- Licensed Physical Therapy Assistant through the Louisiana Physical Therapy Board
- Non-Violent Crisis Prevention (CPI, NCI-CPI) - Crisis Prevention Institute (NOEH employees must receive within 90 days)
