Job Description: SCOPE: The radiation therapist administers treatments to patients under direction and supervision of a radiation oncologist and the supervisor, therapy & imaging; Accurately positions beam of radiation to correspond with designated tumor volume; Accurately delivers prescribed dose; Under minimal supervision, images tumor volume and outlines the corresponding target on patient's surface; Accurately records data with respect to field parameters, patient dimensions, and contour acquisition, which are essential for proper dosimetric calculations and high quality radiation therapy FUNCTIONS: Administers daily radiotherapy treatments to patients assigned to the treatment unit, accurately and efficiently, at a speed consistent with patient scheduling. Maintains records of daily treatments as required in assigned treatment area. Follows treatment policies and procedures. Proactively reviews patient's chart. Assists with outside customers and vendors. Participates in the clinical orientation/instruction of newly hired radiation therapists, radiation therapy student and x-ray students. Performs mandatory quality control activities and participates in the Continuous Quality Improvement program of the treatment area department. Maintains a clean, safe, and organized work environment. Observes and adheres to radiation safety and infection control policies. QUALIFICATION: Graduate of an accredited program in radiation therapy technology or suitable equivalent. 2 years clinical experience as a radiation therapist preferred but not required. ARRT eligible or current registry as RT(T) and licensed by the Mississippi State Department of Health. CPR required. Computer skills and exposure to various Elekta & Varian treatment machines preferred. Good interpersonal and communication skills.

Job Description:

SCOPE: The radiation therapist administers treatments to patients under direction and supervision of a radiation oncologist and the supervisor, therapy & imaging; Accurately positions beam of radiation to correspond with designated tumor volume; Accurately delivers prescribed dose; Under minimal supervision, images tumor volume and outlines the corresponding target on patient's surface; Accurately records data with respect to field parameters, patient dimensions, and contour acquisition, which are essential for proper dosimetric calculations and high quality radiation therapy

FUNCTIONS:

  1. Administers daily radiotherapy treatments to patients assigned to the treatment unit, accurately and efficiently, at a speed consistent with patient scheduling.

  2. Maintains records of daily treatments as required in assigned treatment area. Follows treatment policies and procedures. Proactively reviews patient's chart.

  3. Assists with outside customers and vendors.

  4. Participates in the clinical orientation/instruction of newly hired radiation therapists, radiation therapy student and x-ray students.

  5. Performs mandatory quality control activities and participates in the Continuous Quality Improvement program of the treatment area department.

  6. Maintains a clean, safe, and organized work environment. Observes and adheres to radiation safety and infection control policies.

QUALIFICATION:

Graduate of an accredited program in radiation therapy technology or suitable equivalent.

2 years clinical experience as a radiation therapist preferred but not required.

ARRT eligible or current registry as RT(T) and licensed by the Mississippi State Department of Health.

CPR required.

Computer skills and exposure to various Elekta & Varian treatment machines preferred.

Good interpersonal and communication skills.
