Completes continuing education of herbicide and pesticide application prior to renewal of licenses. Responsible for the correct use of chemical applications to deter pest populations, to control weeds, and fertilize grounds. Notifies supervisor of any concerns prior to applying chemical(s) to building and grounds. Oversees contract workers performance of routine mowing and edging of hospital grounds. Notifies supervisor if issues arise during these periods. Responsible for mowing and edging the intricate areas of the hospital. Responsible for ensuring trees, bushes, shrubs, and other hospital grounds are kept trimmed and neat. Uses independent judgement to determine the amount to trim while avoiding damage to the hospital’s landscape. Maintains proper moisture levels throughout the hospital grounds to ensure growth of lawn, plants, shrubs, bushes, and trees. Performs brief safety inspections of all equipment and/or tools prior to use. Maintains general knowledge of the operation, maintenance, and minor repair of all equipment and/or tools. Maintains records of general routine maintenance of equipment and/or tools. Notifies supervisor of any repairs or replacement of equipment and/or tools. Attends to hospital grounds, parking lots, and sidewalks ensuring areas are neat. Using proper equipment and/or machinery, removes all visible litter and debris. Dispose of litter and debris using the proper trash container or removal procedure. Responsible for maintaining a pool operator license (PBP license). As directed by supervisor, completes pool checks to ensure water quality and balance, the recirculation of system filters is working correctly, and maintains records of pool checks. As assigned by the supervisor, will assist in completion of other maintenance tasks or responsibilities for the hospital’s building and grounds. Demonstrate safety awareness while performing assigned duties by using equipment properly, wearing safety belts, safety glasses, safety vests, etc. Follows policy guidelines when lifting and using proper body mechanics. Our 80-acres campus includes a on-site elementary, intermediate, and high school which is staffed by Norman Public School teachers. The Office of Juvenile Affairs (OJA), Oklahoma Youth Academy Charter School (OYACS) is looking for a Paraprofessional to assist teachers and students in daily classroom curriculum. Key Responsibilities 

  • Communications: Establishes and maintains effective educational relationships with students and teachers.  Communicates high expectations for all students.  Promotes a positive environment and exchanges ideas. 
  • Substitute in Classrooms:   Maintains classroom management in accordance with OYACS standards.  Keeps students at their curriculum pace even in the absence of the teacher. Assists the students with their specific content (all classes) without pausing the pace.
  • Tutoring: Assists students with practice and deepen their understanding of new and existing knowledge.  Assist students in every class as needed.

Schedule and Compensation

  • Work Schedule: Monday – Friday, 7:15 AM – 3:15 PM.
  • Salary commensurate with experience and certifications.

Minimum Qualifications 

Must meet Tier 1 requirements upon hire.  Tier 2 requirements can be met within 120 days of hire date.

Tier 1:

High School Diploma and one of the following:

  • Completed two years of study at an institution of higher education (no less than 48 hours of college coursework), OR
  • Earned an Associate’s Degree (or higher), OR
  • Take and pass the ACT WorkKeys Assessment scoring a Bronze or higher

Tier 2

Initial Requirements

  • OSDE approved Paraprofessional training through career technology centers or other state-approved training providers
  • Cardiovascular Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • First Aid Training

Yearly Requirements

  • Bloodborne Pathogens AND
  • Six (6) hours of professional development

Special Requirements 

  • All applicants must be physically able to handle the duties and pass the required training for this position. 
  • Applicants must be willing and able to perform all job-related travel normally associated with this position, possess a valid Oklahoma driver’s license at time of appointment.
