Job Description
The Senior Accounting Specialist is a senior individual contributor within the Accounts Payable function who serves as a trusted resource for complex AP operations across multiple business entities. Working closely with the Accounts Payable Supervisor, this role supports day-to-day operations, contributes to process improvements and automation initiatives, and promotes efficient, well-controlled Accounts Payable processes.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide day-to-day guidance and knowledge sharing to Accounts Payable team members and distributed support resources, promoting consistent execution of established policies, procedures, and service standards.
Serve as an escalation resource for complex AP matters, including payment exceptions, vendor inquiries, system issues, and cross‑functional process questions. Resolve issues where appropriate and elevate matters requiring additional support to the Accounts Payable Supervisor.
Support AP compliance and internal control activities, including vendor tax reporting requirements (e.g. Form 1099), by reviewing transactions, resolving exceptions, maintaining documentation, and following established policies and procedures. Help identify recurring issues and opportunities to strengthen processes and controls.
Perform established procedures for ACH and wire payment setup, maintenance, and verification, ensuring required validations, documentation, and logging are completed in accordance with internal controls and segregation of duties.
Partner with the Accounts Payable Supervisor to prepare and maintain AP KPI reporting and dashboards, analyze operational trends, and support continuous improvement of AP operations.
Identify opportunities to improve AP processes through standardization, automation, and technology-enabled solutions (e.g. AI) that increase efficiency and reduce manual effort.
Ensure AP transactions are processed accurately and timely in accordance with U.S. GAAP and company policies by reviewing reconciliations, supporting efficient transaction processing, and addressing discrepancies.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelors Degree in Accounting, Business, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience
Minimum 3-5 years of progressive Accounts Payable or accounting experience in a complex or multi-entity environment, including exposure to procure-to-pay processes, period-end close activities, reconciliations, and internal controls.
Experience supporting or participating in system enhancements, automation initiatives, or process change efforts preferred.
Industry experience in retail, manufacturing, and automotive preferred.
Strong understanding of Accounts Payable operations, procure-to-pay workflows, U.S. GAAP, and accounting flows impacting downstream reporting and controls.
Experience using ERP systems (Oracle Financial Cloud preferred) and supporting technology, automation, system enhancement initiatives, or AI-enabled tools; familiarity with DealerTrack preferred.
Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, resolve problems, and communicate effectively with technical and non-technical audiences.
Strong learning agility and curiosity, with a willingness to continuously build knowledge of systems, processes, and emerging tools.
