Join the YWCA of Hawaii Island Team as an Advocate/Intervention Specialist!

We are seeking a compassionate, detail-oriented Advocate/Intervention Specialist to join our Sexual Assault Support Services (SASS) team.
Position Overview
The Advocate/Intervention Specialist plays a critical role in supporting survivors of sexual assault and other crimes by providing crisis intervention, advocacy, and short-term case management services. This position responds to hotline calls and in-person call-outs, coordinates care, and supports survivors and their families through trauma-informed services.
This role works within a coordinated system of care to reduce the impact of trauma, promote healing, and increase community awareness. In addition to direct services, the position supports program operations through documentation, office organization, and maintaining readiness of service spaces.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Respond to crisis hotline calls and attend call-outs in a timely manner
- Provide crisis intervention, emotional support, and advocacy to survivors and their families
- Coordinate and deliver face-to-face services, including response alongside law enforcement and medical personnel
- Maintain strict client confidentiality in accordance with applicable laws and agency policies
- Complete accurate and timely documentation of services (within 24 hours)
- Participate in case coordination, team meetings, and clinical supervision
- Support outreach and community awareness efforts
- Maintain organized client files and assist with general office upkeep, including stocking program spaces
- Attend required trainings and staff meetings
- Perform other duties as assigned
Schedule & Work Conditions
- Full-time, exempt position
- Generally Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM (with flexibility as approved)
- Includes up to five (5) 12-hour on-call crisis shifts per week
- Occasional evenings and weekends may be required
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a human services field (psychology, social work, nursing, or related) preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience
- High school diploma or GED required
- Minimum six (6) months experience working in a helping role with children and/or adults
- Crisis intervention or sexual assault advocacy experience preferred
Additional Requirements
- Ability to respond to call-outs and arrive on-site within 45 minutes
- Access to a reliable personal phone with privacy for client communication
- Valid Hawaii driver’s license and reliable personal vehicle for work-related travel
- Current vehicle registration and insurance (minimum required coverage)
- Clean driving abstract
- Ability to complete required background check and pre-employment drug screening
- Ability to attend a minimum of 35 hours of initial training
