Experience in setting up, running, and analyzing output from numerical weather prediction models, such as WRF, MPAS. Experience working with large datasets with different formats and components, including NetCDF, GRIB, HDF, and binary. Strong background in data assimilation, numerical modeling. Thorough skills associated with statistical analysis and systems programming. Proven expertise in programming to include shell scripting, Fortran, C/C++, Python, NCL, and Matlab, amongst other programming languages. Must be proficient in Linux environments. Ability to prioritize tasks appropriately and meet deadlines. Skills to communicate complex information in a clear and concise manner both verbally and in writing. Job Description

Rainmaker Technology Corporation seeks a postdoctoral researcher to help develop the data assimilation system for the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model. We specifically aim to use this system to evaluate the impact of cloud seeding on precipitation using various data sources.

The successful candidate will work with the team to implement the WRFDA system on AWS. The candidate will work closely with the team to understand how various observations improve initial conditions for specific use-cases over different geography.

Qualifications

    • Master’s degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training. Ph.D. in Atmospheric Science preferred.
    • Experience and proficiency in implementing and developing radar data assimilation WRFDA/DART.
    • Experience in setting up, running, and analyzing output from numerical weather prediction models, such as WRF, MPAS.
    • Experience working with large datasets with different formats and components, including NetCDF, GRIB, HDF, and binary.
    • Strong background in data assimilation, numerical modeling.
    • Thorough skills associated with statistical analysis and systems programming.
    • Proven expertise in programming to include shell scripting, Fortran, C/C++, Python, NCL, and Matlab, amongst other programming languages.
    • Must be proficient in Linux environments.
    • Ability to prioritize tasks appropriately and meet deadlines.
    • Skills to communicate complex information in a clear and concise manner both verbally and in writing.
    • Skills in scientific visualization, scientific writing.
    • Proven ability to work effectively under pressure.
    • Proven ability to multitask and work independently.
