Job Description

About Voyager Therapeutics

Voyager Therapeutics, Inc. (Nasdaq: VYGR) is a biotechnology company dedicated to leveraging the power of human genetics to modify the course of - and ultimately cure - neurological diseases. Our pipeline includes programs for Alzheimer's disease, Friedreich's ataxia, Parkinson's disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), and multiple other diseases of the central nervous system. Many of our programs are derived from our TRACER AAV capsid discovery platform, which we have used to generate novel capsids and identify associated receptors to potentially enable high brain penetration with genetic medicines following intravenous dosing. Some of our programs are wholly owned, and some are advancing with partners including Alexion, AstraZeneca Rare Disease; Novartis Pharma AG; and Neurocrine Biosciences, Inc. Job Summary:

Voyager Therapeutics is seeking a dedicated Senior Scientist*, Protein Science to join our growing Non-Viral Therapeutics Team. This role will be responsible for the purification, characterization, and delivery of high-quality monodispersed proteins, including bispecific antibodies, antibody-oligonucleotide conjugates, and fusion proteins, to support the discovery and development of novel biotherapeutics. The ideal candidate should have extensive experience with multi-step purification schemes for complex biologics and be familiar with analytical methods for characterizing complex biotherapeutic molecules. This role will require coordination and collaboration within the Protein Science and Bioconjugation group to generate next-gen biologic candidates, and with Antibody Discovery and Engineering, and Biology teams to optimize and advance brain-penetrant biologics.

Position Specific Responsibilities:

  • Develop and refine relevant chromatographic separation techniques (affinity, ion-exchange, size exclusion, HIC, multi-modal) using standard and computer interfaced chromatography systems
  • Establish and execute workflows enabling high-throughput production for screening through gram scale production to support primate studies
  • Troubleshoot and optimize strategies to purify and characterize complex molecules
  • Apply biophysical methods to assess size, thermal stability, aggregate and particulate contamination
  • Consistently deliver internally qualified high-quality protein for in vitro assays, animal studies, and structure determination
  • Multiplex purifications to drive efficiency and shorter delivery times
  • Coordinate purification and characterization with requested timing of qualified protein

Specialized Knowledge & Skills:

  • Extensive hands-on experience with protein purification and relevant chromatographic techniques
  • Deep expertise with AKTA Pure and AKTA Avant chromatographic systems is required
  • Direct hands-on experience with analytical characterization techniques (e.g. SDS-PAGE, SEC, light scatter, differential scanning calorimetry/fluorimetry)
  • Ability to design and execute experiments and trouble-shoot challenges independently
  • Familiarity with mass spectrometry is desirable
  • Experience with bispecific antibody purification is preferable
  • Self-motivated with an ability to handle multiple customized purifications, and scale to the request of purified material
  • Outstanding analytical, research and organizational skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

Requirements:

  • PhD in biochemistry, protein engineering or related field
  • 5+ years of relevant industry experience
  • Position level determined by candidate experience, qualifications, and competencies
