Zayo's Damage Prevention Team responsible for protecting Zayo's infrastructure by accurately locating and marking Zayo utilities, acting as the first line of defense in preventing damages and ensuring safety from utility strikes during excavation and construction activities.
Zayo's Damage Prevention Technician III is responsible for accurately locating and marking Zayo's underground utilities and documenting work through photos and within our digital platform. Damage Prevention Technician IIIs are expected to operate with a greater degree of independence and may also be assigned additional responsibilities as well as participating in training new hires and mentoring less experienced locators.
- Location: this role is located in Miami, FL and works in the field. Our ideal candidate will reside within 30 minutes of the Miami, FL area.
Responsibilities:
Analyzing blueprints to determine where construction projects will take place.
Documenting interactions, site information, and utilities in organizational software.
Communicating with clients, engineers, and management.
Using various techniques (electrical, magnetic, GPS, blueprint analysis, and/or radar) to measure utilities.
Proactively identifying and solving potential problem areas to ensure the integrity of the network within established operating procedures.
Pinpointing the coordinates of lines using GPS or surveying equipment.
Oversight of the asset management process and replenishment of on-site/truck materials.
Maintaining tools, test sets, and all network equipment.
Acting as a subject matter expert on technology, process, and company infrastructure.
Providing training to other employees as needed.
Participating in forums or cross-functional team settings to contribute to the development of process or policy.
Maintaining network/site security, cleanliness, and following all policies related to company property.
Engaging, monitoring, and evaluating the performance of vendor/contractors completing work on behalf of the company.
Operating in both individual and team environments, both within this team and interacting with other teams, working together to achieve common goals.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Must live within 30 minutes of the Miami, FL metro area.
Minimum of five (5) years of previous experience with utility locating and fiber optic cable builds required. Telecom specific training preferred.
Minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience in field construction tasks.
Basic knowledge of underground installation practices.
High school diploma or equivalent required; some college or technical school training preferred.
Proficiency in using computers, cell phones, test equipment, Microsoft Windows operating systems, and Office applications.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to operate on-call 24/7/365 on a rotating schedule, including standby, call out, dispatch, and overtime, as required by the business, including some travel, as needed.
Occasionally work long shifts with overnight travel, as necessary. Ability to sometimes work outside plant network in a given market, including metro and long-haul fibers, when needed.
Ability to maintain eligibility to operate a company issued vehicle per Zayo policy (no more than 2 moving violations within the past 3 years); including possession of a state-issued driver license for the state in which you live.
Ability to follow all personal safety policies and procedures.
Ability to regularly lift objects weighing up to 100 pounds and move them clear of the job site.
Estimated base pay range for this role is $23.41 - $36.00 USD / hour

The base pay range shown is a guideline and reasonable estimate for this role. It takes into account the wide variety of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions. Actual compensation offered may vary from the posted range based upon geographic location, work experience, skill level, certifications, and other business and organizational needs. Non- sales roles may be eligible to participate in a discretionary annual incentive plan. Sales roles may be eligible to participate in a sales incentive plan.
Additionally, this position may be eligible for certain benefits, such as health insurance, life insurance, disability retirement plans, paid time off.
