Perform pre-trip inspection on vehicle to ensure all mechanical, safety, and emergency components are in working condition and in accordance to DOT regulations. Maintain a safe work environment and ensure adherence to safety guidelines; follow established safety procedures at all times when driving, moving trailers from dock doors, etc. Responsible to perform post-trip duties, fuel tractor/trailer as necessary; secure tractor/trailer, complete DOT logs and record deliveries/pick ups , provide all paperwork to appropriate warehouse/transportation personnel as required. Perform simple vehicle maintenance (i.e. clean interiors and exteriors, take vehicle for state inspection, filling tires with air, etc.). Report damage and/or repair requirements; coordinate with the dispatcher/supervisor to accomplish routine vehicle maintenance and repairs. Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed . Gulf Coast Village is part of Volunteers of America National Services which serves as the Housing and Healthcare affiliate of the Volunteers of America parent organization.

Schedule - 8am to 4:30pm, Monday thru Friday, 25 to 30 hours per week

POSITION SUMMARY

Drives Gulf Coast Village Transportation Fleet to transport residents by performing the following duties.

Qualifications

Required Qualification's:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Current commercial driver’s license (CDL) with passenger endorsements is required.
  • Experience in customer service environment, preferably in a senior living setting.
  • Current First-Aid and CPR certification required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY

The following duties are normal for this position.  This list is not to be construed as exclusive or all inclusive.  Other duties may be required and assigned.

  • Drives vehicle from community area to destination according to assigned schedule.
  • Assists disabled passengers into and out of vehicle.
  • Secures passengers' wheelchairs to restraining devices to stabilize wheelchairs during trip.
  • Operates cell phone to communicate with base station or other vehicles to report disruption of service.
  • Cleans and services vehicle with fuel, lubricants, and accessories.
  • Meets all Department of Transportation (DOT) requirements, including passenger’s endorsements.
  • Other duties as assigned by Supervisor.
