Job Description
Position Summary:
The Cook is responsible for preparing nutritious, appealing meals for residents in accordance with dietary guidelines and individual resident needs. This role ensures food is safely handled, properly prepared, and served in a timely and sanitary manner. The Cook contributes to a welcoming dining experience and promotes resident satisfaction.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Prepare and cook meals and snacks according to menus, recipes, and resident dietary restrictions (e.g., diabetic, low-sodium, pureed).
Ensure meals are served on time and at the appropriate temperature.
Maintain a clean and organized kitchen, including proper food storage and labeling.
Follow all health, safety, and sanitation guidelines, including proper handwashing, food handling, and equipment cleaning.
Monitor food inventory levels and report supply needs to the Dietary Manager.
Assist with receiving and storing food deliveries.
Maintain portion control and minimize food waste.
Communicate with dietary aides and servers to coordinate meal service.
Accommodate resident food preferences and special requests within dietary guidelines.
Participate in menu planning and resident food satisfaction surveys, as needed.
Report equipment malfunctions or safety hazards immediately.
Support special events, theme meals, or holiday functions as needed.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Minimum 1 year of experience cooking in a commercial kitchen, healthcare, or senior living environment preferred.
Knowledge of food safety and sanitation procedures (ServSafe certification preferred or must be willing to obtain).
Ability to read and follow standardized recipes and production sheets.
Excellent time management, communication, and teamwork skills.
Compassion and respect for the elderly and commitment to providing quality care.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand for long periods, bend, stoop, reach, lift up to 30 pounds.
Ability to work in hot, humid, or cold conditions (e.g., near ovens, refrigerators).
Ability to perform repetitive tasks and use commercial kitchen equipment safely.
