The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with a multidisciplinary team, including collaborators in engineering, obstetrics & gynecology, and radiology. As a translational biomedical engineering lab, the successful candidate will work on projects that have high potential to impact patients, particularly those in under served areas where needs are greatest. The O'Brien Lab aims to foster a supportive environment in which team members work together to creatively solve global medical challenges. A postdoctoral position is available immediately for applicants interested in developing novel wearable optical sensors for applications in maternal health. The goals of this project are to develop fully wearable sensors that can be worn during pregnancy, labor, and postpartum recovery to provide early identification of the leading causes of maternal mortality. Project work will involve sensor design, including analog front-end design, light source modulation, sensor miniaturization including PCB design, sensor testing via physiology-mimicking phantoms, animal models, healthy control subjects, and pregnant patients, and analysis of continuous time series data including signal processing, feature extraction, and statistical analysis. Provide direct patient care, including psychiatric evaluations and medication management services. Carry a caseload as determined in collaboration with supervisory staff. Participate in emergency services to offer rapid aid during emotional crises. Ensure comprehensive follow-up care for all clients. Join client staffing meetings upon request to identify problems and establish treatment goals; assume management responsibility for assigned cases. Attend required meetings, trainings, and staff development activities organized by Brightli or as assigned. Support management needs, such as data collection, program evaluation, grant applications, and maintenance of service contracts. Engage in public and community behavioral health education through forums, educational materials, and media appearances. Adhere to quality assurance procedures and follow established rules and regulations of the Health Information Management (HIM) department. Complete psychiatric evaluations and medication follow-up appointments in a timely manner as assigned by support services. Participate in the on-call rotation for physicians (voluntary and for additional compensation). Offer medical/psychiatric consultation to internal staff and external entities, including the court system, as requested by the supervisor/administrative team. Collaborate, and provide support to assigned Nurse Practitioners, fellows, residents and students; act as backup for colleagues when needed. Perform other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey complex ideas to patients, staff, and the public. Proficiency in reading and interpreting complex documents and using an electronic health record system is essential. Basic mathematical skills and the capacity to apply logic to carry out written, oral, or diagrammed instructions. Ability to establish effective relationships via telephone, telemedicine, or in-person contacts. Capable of working in a group practice, following directions, and accepting supervision. Ability to work effectively with a diverse patient population Experience in a similar role is preferred. Job Summary:

The Medical Assistant will perform administrative and certain clinical duties under the direction of a physician. Administrative duties may include scheduling appointments, maintaining medical records, billing, and coding information for insurance purposes. Clinical duties may include taking and recording vital signs and medical histories, preparing patients for examination, drawing blood, and administering medications as directed by physician.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Utilize nursing knowledge and skills in the safe implantation of basic preventative, therapeutic, and nursing care of assigned patient as evidenced by documentation and observation of positive patient care outcomes.
  • Assists in data collection on the EMR.
  • Carries out physician orders accurately, directly, and indirectly.
  • Administers medication accurately, observing patient response, as evidenced by documentation in the medical record and lack of negative outcomes.
  • Maintain and coordinate communication among patient, staff, and physician as evidenced within medical record, client, and health care team feedback.
  • Report patient needs/programs and observations regarding patient's condition to the physician
  • Work collaboratively with other members of the healthcare team in coordination of the patient's care as evidenced by other department feedback.
  • Participates in staff development programs.
  • Takes direction and initiate actions (cross/additional training) that will allow the assumption of cross-functional duties to ensure seamless patient care.
  • Participates in continuing education activities and obtains required contact hours.
