Job Description

Director of Nursing (DON)

Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation | Young Adult-Focused Care

About the Role

We're looking for a Director of Nursing who believes healthcare can be high-quality, empowering, and human-especially for younger adults navigating recovery, rehabilitation, or complex medical needs.

Our facility serves a younger population in a skilled nursing and rehab setting, and this role is about more than compliance and schedules. It's about building a nursing culture that supports independence, dignity, growth, and real life outcomes while delivering exceptional clinical care.

If you're a strong clinical leader who thrives in fast-paced environments, values collaboration, and wants to help redefine what skilled nursing can look like for younger people, this role was built for you.

What You'll Do:

Lead & Inspire Nursing Teams

  • Oversee all nursing operations, including RNs, LPNs, and CNAs

  • Set clear expectations, coach leaders, and build a strong, accountable team culture

  • Create an environment where staff feel supported, challenged, and proud of the care they deliver

Deliver Modern, Person-Centered Care

  • Ensure nursing care is developmentally appropriate and aligned with the goals of younger adults

  • Support residents managing complex medical conditions, rehabilitation, behavioral health needs, or recovery journeys

  • Promote autonomy, self-advocacy, and skill-building as part of everyday care

Drive Quality & Compliance (Without Losing the Human Side)

  • Maintain compliance with all state and federal regulations

  • Lead survey readiness and follow-up with confidence and transparency

  • Monitor quality indicators, outcomes, and safety initiatives

  • Use data to improve care-not just to check boxes

Collaborate Across Disciplines

  • Partner with therapy, social services, behavioral health, and medical providers

  • Participate in care planning, discharge planning, and goal-setting

  • Communicate clearly with residents, families, and external partners

Build the Future of Nursing at Our Facility

  • Recruit, onboard, and retain high-quality nursing staff

  • Lead training, competency development, and professional growth

  • Champion innovation, new care models, and continuous improvement

What We're Looking For:

Required

  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license

  • Experience in skilled nursing, rehabilitation, or complex care settings

  • Proven leadership or management experience

  • Strong understanding of regulatory and compliance requirements

  • Ability to lead with confidence, empathy, and accountability

Nice to Have:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Nursing or Healthcare Administration

  • Experience working with younger or non-traditional patient populations

  • Background in rehab, neuro care, behavioral health, or substance use recovery

  • Comfort with technology, EHRs, and data-driven decision making

The Kind of Leader You Are:

  • You balance high standards with real compassion

  • You're comfortable making decisions-and owning them

  • You believe culture matters just as much as clinical outcomes

  • You're adaptable, curious, and not afraid to challenge "how it's always been done"

Why This Role Matters:

This isn't a traditional nursing home leadership position. You'll have the opportunity to help shape a care model that meets younger adults where they are-supporting recovery, independence, and long-term success in a setting that often wasn't designed with them in mind.
