Works with other disciplines as appropriate, in setting up grooming, exercise, sensory stimulation classes, etc. Participates in restorative dining program and works with OT and other nursing staff in accomplishing set goals. Coaches and assists CNAs in positioning, ROM, ambulation, ADL, cones/splints/contracture care, ADL specifics, safety device application, appropriate padding and wheelchair cushions, safety device release. Coaches and assists CNAs to make sure residents have their recommended assistive feeding devices in dining room. Follows protocols and procedures for restorative nursing care as set by nursing administration. Attends care planning conferences and provides input into development of individualized plan of restorative care. Informs charge nurse of suggestions for changes that he/she perceives as necessary for improving resident care that would help a resident reach their highest practicable functioning level. Reports lack of functioning equipment and lack of adequate supplies to supervisor. Assists with bladder retraining and works with staff in seeing that the program is properly carried out. Documents progress of residents by completing flow sheets daily to signify that the specified restorative nursing measure was done. Makes weekly observation, progression/regression note in narrative format. Including but not limited to: Maintaining cleanliness of resident's room to include daily cleaning, deep cleaning as required, and discharge cleaning; providing for and engages in activities of interest to resident; providing restorative nursing programs necessary to maintain ADLs. Communicates professionally and effectively, verbally and in writing. Follows written and verbal directions. Provides exemplary customer service to residents, peers, families, managers, and visitors. Reports any changes in physical or mental conditions on a timely basis Assists nurses with assigned tasks, including but not limited to: Measuring and recording vitals; gathering weights, measures and other documentation on the residents; making beds, cleaning closets, organizing and ensuring cleanliness of resident living areas; assisting with new admissions as assigned; assisting in the training and orientation of new staff as assigned. Adheres to the guidelines as outlined in the Resident Rights documentation. Knows resident rights and helps the residents exercise and/or protect their rights. Reports resident complaints to charge nurse or supervisory in charge, maintains confidentiality. Documents resident information timely, accurately and confidentially according to the procedures set forth in the electronic medical record system. Adheres to all policies and procedures as outlined under the Safety & Compliance policies and procedures. Demonstrates proper use of equipment. Reports equipment needs or repairs. Practices universal precautions. Uses protective equipment, follows infection control protocol standards, policies and procedures. Performs food service functions to include: Preparing residents for meals, serving food, assisting with eating, after meal care, passing snacks and fresh water/ice; recording food/fluid intake, noting changes of eating habits and appropriately reporting. Werner Cancer Hospital Progressive Care Unit, or W-PCU: This 24-bed unit in the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center serves adult progressive surgical, oncology, palliative care and progressive acute care patients receiving chemotherapy

Position Highlights

The Mission of the Progressive Care Unit is to provide expert care for our patients and families while supporting ongoing education and research. The approach is interdisciplinary and puts the patient and their family at the center of all we do. 7:00 pm - 7:30 am

Certified Nursing Assistant:

Perform delegated patient activities as assigned by licensed nursing personnel for the achievement of patient`s plan of care.

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 16 years of age required.
  • Possesses a Certified Nursing Assistant certification in the state of Nebraska required.
  • Demonstrated effective communication skills required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 30 days of hire required, must be from an American Heart Association (AHA) endorsed program (effective for new hires starting January 1, 2023 or later).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of computer data entry and word processing preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology preferred.

Nursing Assistant:

Perform delegated patient activities as assigned by licensed nursing personnel for the achievement of patient`s plan of care.

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 18 years of age required.
  • High school education or equivalent required.
  • Six months experience in patient care required or must be enrolled in nursing program.
  • Demonstrated effective communication skills required.•
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required, must be from an American Heart Association (AHA) endorsed program (effective for new hires starting January 1, 2023 or later).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Direct patient care experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of computer data entry and word processing preferred
