Job Summary Under the direction of Administration, the House Supervisor functions as an extension of Administration and Department leaders, providing administrative direction and leadership in emergency and unforeseen situations to ensure appropriate, timely response and resolution in the absence of administrative/ management presence. Additional functions applicable when collaborating with Charge Nurse or other junior leadership department heads: To assist in making patient care assignments based on the skill, experience, and temperament of other nursing/healthcare personnel and on the acuity of the patients, ensuring patient safety, staff safety, assist in the evaluation of performance and skills of Agency/Temporary staff, as well as, permanent acute/critical care staff. To responsibly direct and precept these, or any staff members as needed/assigned in all aspects healthcare management. Mission Community Hospital, a 145-bed acute care facility located in the San Fernando Valley, is currently searching for a Part Time DAYS Nursing House Supervisor in the Nursing Administration Unit. 

Job Summary

Under the direction of Administration, the House Supervisor functions as an extension of Administration and Department leaders, providing administrative direction and leadership in emergency and unforeseen situations to ensure appropriate, timely response and resolution in the absence of administrative/ management presence.

Under the direction of Administration, the House Supervisor is responsible for providing and managing the structure; human and material resources that are necessary for effective patient care and/or healthcare delivery for a given unit(s)/dept.(s)/and the entire facility.  This position will be primarily working with an acute/critically ill through behavioral health and medical detox to geriatric patient population in a manner that demonstrates an understanding of the functional and/or developmental age of the individual served.

The House Supervisor is responsible for operations of the unit(s)/dept(s)/and the entire facility on a shift by shift basis.  The House Supervisor serves as a representative of management, ensuring compliance with hospital policies, mission, vision and values.   The House Supervisor is responsible for ensuring that the best possible patient care and/or healthcare is provided with the resources available and ensures staff compliance with standards of care and scope of practice.

Additional functions applicable when collaborating with Charge Nurse or other junior leadership department heads: To assist in making patient care assignments based on the skill, experience, and temperament of other nursing/healthcare personnel and on the acuity of the patients, ensuring patient safety, staff safety, assist in the evaluation of performance and skills of Agency/Temporary staff, as well as, permanent acute/critical care staff. To responsibly direct and precept these, or any staff members as needed/assigned in all aspects healthcare management. Participate in quality and process improvement in the department during all phases from planning to implementation, and sustaining efforts, including taking corrective action if other employees fail to carry out delegated duties. This position has 24-hr/7-day week responsibility/accountability; with both immediate and long term planning.  The House Supervisor applies critical reasoning, is creative and is able to develop a vision.

Major Responsibilities

Customer Service - 30%

  • Supports and adheres to the MCH guest relations philosophy (Language of Caring) to ensure that our patients, physicians, visitors, and co-workers receive outstanding personal care and attention.
  • Responds to Code Blues, RRT, Deaths and other emergent/urgent events, acting as a resource, support and/or intermediary until other resources arrive and/or are identified.
  • Ensures a fair/equitable division of shifts are scheduled amongst all employees/staff to maximize coverage while minimizing over-time, bonus shifts or other less cost-efficient scheduling practices.
  • Demonstrates effective communication with multidisciplinary team members to coordinate patient care activities and facilitate problem resolution.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and practice of current safety goals and policies.

Qualifications

  • Completion of RN program with AD.
  • Minimum of four years of acute/critical care experience including charge experience.  
  • Minimum of four years Med/Surg, Telemetry, ICU/CCU, or ER experience.
  • Ability to read and communicate (in-person and/or via telephone/intercom) effectively in English.
  • Basic computer knowledge.
  • Possesses the (5) Characteristics of Leadership (Sense of Urgency, Level of Commitment, Discipline, Positive Attitude, Education/Experience).
  • Current license with the California State Board of Nursing.
  • ACLS, BLS, MAB/CPI certified.
  • Fire Card
