Plan and supervise assignments and activities for teacher assistants, student teachers, or volunteers. Maintain and improve currency in the field and professional competence. Position Overview

The ADON plays a key leadership role in our Healthcare Center, supporting all aspects of resident care, nursing operations, and staff development. This role includes oversight of both assisted living and memory support services. The ADON may be a Registered Nurse (RN) or, in certain circumstances, a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) with leadership experience, and must hold an active license in good standing with the Virginia Board of Nursing.

Key Responsibilities

Resident Care

  • Oversee the delivery of quality nursing care in collaboration with the Director of Nursing

  • Conduct daily rounds, review care plans, attend stand-up meetings, and ensure timely communication on resident conditions

  • Participate in care planning, discharge planning, and family engagement

  • Ensure compliance with physician visit schedules and documentation standards

Staff Development & Scheduling

  • Assist in assessing staffing needs, hiring, orientation, and performance management

  • Monitor time and attendance records, coach staff, and support professional development

  • Contribute to a positive work culture with high employee retention

Leadership & Compliance

  • Serve as a resource and leader for nursing staff across shifts

  • Manage survey preparedness, compliance documentation, and quality assurance measures

  • Support policy adherence and manage on-call responsibilities as needed

Mentorship & Quality Improvement

  • Act as a role model in resident-centered care practices

  • Engage in incident investigations, staff education, and regulatory readiness

  • Champion continuous improvement and staff mentorship

Qualifications

Required:

  • Active RN license (preferred) or LPN license (in specific scenarios) in the State of Virginia

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program

  • Minimum 3–5 years of nursing supervisory experience or equivalent leadership skills

  • CPR/AED certification (or willingness to obtain)

Preferred:

  • Experience in a skilled nursing, assisted living, or memory care environment

  • Familiarity with state and federal regulations, including healthcare and labor laws

  • Knowledge of geriatric care, care planning, and interdisciplinary team collaboration
