We are seeking an IT Software Engineer who wants to build meaningful, modern cloud solutions and contribute to the future of the electric grid.

What you'll do

You'll engineer cloud‑native solutions across the full stack, from backend services and data pipelines to intuitive front‑end experiences, all of which support the analytics and decision‑making that power our grid‑modernization mission. Day to day, you'll apply modern engineering practices-Agile, automated testing, code reviews, CI/CD, observability, and secure‑by‑design-to deliver high‑quality software, troubleshoot issues, and continuously improve performance and reliability in production. You'll collaborate closely with product managers, data engineers, and grid SMEs to convert real operational challenges into elegant, maintainable solutions that make a visible difference for our customers and communities.

Our stack

We build on a broad set of AWS services-S3, DynamoDB, Glue, Athena, EC2, Lambda, CloudWatch (and more)-choosing the right tools for reliability, scalability, and cost efficiency.

Basic/Required Requirements:

  • Associates degree in Information Technology or Other Related Degree

  • Minimum 3 years related work experience

  • In lieu of Associates degree(s) AND 3 year(s) related work experience listed above, High School/GED AND 5 year(s) related work experience

Desired Qualifications:

  • Hands‑on experience with AWS services (e.g., S3, DynamoDB, Glue, Athena, EC2, Lambda, CloudWatch).

  • Solid backend engineering and API development skills; comfortable with SQL/NoSQL data stores.

  • Working knowledge of cloud‑native patterns (event‑driven services, microservices, automation, CI/CD).

  • Familiarity with Agile, TDD, code reviews, and automated testing in a CI/CD environment.

  • Ability to troubleshoot complex issues and build secure, reliable, maintainable systems.

  • Team‑oriented communicator who is eager to learn, thrives in a fast‑paced setting, and enjoys working with cutting‑edge technologies.

Working Conditions

  • Hybrid Mobility Classification - Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees should live within a reasonable daily commute to a Duke Energy facility.
