Position: Unarmed Security Officer

Position Summary: The Unarmed Security Officer is responsible for providing on-site protective services to the Charlotte EIPD facility. The officer ensures the safety of staff, clients, and visitors through continuous foot patrols, access control, and surveillance of the building and parking areas. This role requires situational awareness, professional communication, and strict adherence to State and agency security protocols. The position plays a critical role in deterring unauthorized entry, responding to emergencies, and reporting incidents in accordance with PWS Section 5. 

Duties and Responsibilities:  

  • Conduct foot patrols of building interior and parking areas at regular intervals  
  • Monitor access points and verify identification of authorized personnel  
  • Respond to emergencies including fire, disturbances, and medical events 
  • Prepare daily activity and incident reports for submission to EIPD Manager  
  • Provide escort services and general assistance to employees and visitors  
  • Communicate effectively with State personnel and law enforcement 
  • Identify and report safety hazards and malfunctioning equipment  
  • Maintain order and exercise good judgment in handling unruly individuals 

Required Skills and Abilities:  

  • U.S. Citizenship/Residency required 
  • High school diploma or GED 
  • Must have reliable transportation 
  • Pass state and criminal background check prior to assignment  
  • Comply with state drug-free workplace and fitness-for-duty requirements  
  • Valid North Carolina Private Protective Services Board (PPSB) Security Guard and Patrol Registration Card  
  • CPR/First Aid Certification 
  • Valid driver's license 
  • 1 year experience in security guard or protective services environment 
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and perform foot patrols in all weather conditions  
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills for incident reporting and public interaction  
  • Proficient in report preparation and basic computer skills to complete electronic activity logs  
  • Maintain professional appearance and demeanor at all times
