Summary of role

The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) is a field-based scientific expert and a key member of Global Medical Affairs responsible for establishing and maintaining trusted peer-to-peer scientific relationships with healthcare professionals (HCPs), Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs), investigators, academic institutions, and other healthcare stakeholders. The MSL serves as a scientific and clinical resource, facilitating balanced, evidence-based scientific exchange while generating actionable medical insights that inform medical strategy and improve patient outcomes.

The MSL communicates scientific, clinical, and technical information within the medical community, develops long-term collaborative relationships with external experts, and serves as a therapeutic and radiopharmaceutical expert for internal stakeholders. The role supports the execution of Medical Affairs objectives through scientific engagement, medical insight generation, congress support, clinical research support, and cross-functional collaboration while ensuring compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, company policies, and industry standards.

The successful MSL demonstrates extensive expertise in their given therapeutic area, radiopharmaceuticals, molecular imaging, precision medicine, clinical research, and emerging scientific trends. The MSL continuously maintains current scientific knowledge through ongoing education, medical literature review, congress participation, and company-sponsored training.

This is a remote position open to applicants authorized to work for any employer within the United States. Preferred candidates will reside near a major international airport.

Key Responsibilities

Scientific Engagement

  • Develop, cultivate, and maintain strategic long-term scientific relationships with Key Opinion Leaders, investigators, healthcare professionals, academic institutions, and professional societies within the assigned territory.
  • Conduct high-quality, peer-to-peer scientific exchange utilizing current evidence to communicate approved scientific, clinical, and technical information regarding disease state, diagnostic imaging, radiopharmaceuticals, clinical trial data, treatment guidelines, and emerging scientific evidence.
  • Present complex scientific information effectively in both one-on-one and group settings, tailoring communications to diverse healthcare audiences while maintaining scientific accuracy and compliance.
  • Respond appropriately to unsolicited scientific and medical information requests by providing timely, balanced, accurate, and evidence-based information in accordance with company policies and applicable regulations.
  • Maintain advanced scientific expertise in therapeutic area, radiopharmaceuticals, molecular imaging, clinical trial data, and evolving therapeutic landscapes.

Medical Insight Generation

  • Proactively gather, document, and communicate actionable medical insights obtained through scientific interactions with external experts.
  • Identify emerging scientific trends, diagnostic imaging patterns, treatment advances, unmet medical needs, competitive intelligence, healthcare system challenges, and evolving standards of care.
  • Provide strategic field intelligence that informs Medical Affairs strategy, evidence generation priorities, product lifecycle management, and future research initiatives.
  • Effectively communicate actionable insights to Medical Affairs leadership and cross-functional partners including Clinical Development, Clinical Operations, Commercial, Regulatory Affairs, Market Access, and Health Economics.

Congress and Scientific Meeting Support

  • Represent Medical Affairs at national, regional, and international scientific congresses, professional society meetings, and educational conferences.
  • Develop and execute strategic congress engagement plans, including identification of priority KOL interactions, scientific sessions, and educational opportunities.
  • Facilitate compliant scientific discussions with healthcare professionals before, during, and following scientific meetings.
  • Collect, analyze, and disseminate key scientific updates, competitive intelligence, clinical data, and emerging research findings to internal stakeholders.
  • Prepare congress summaries and scientific debriefs that support organizational learning and medical strategy.

Clinical Research and Study Support

  • Identify and evaluate qualified investigators and clinical research sites for company-sponsored and investigator-sponsored studies.
  • Support clinical trial feasibility assessments, investigator identification, site engagement, and evidence generation initiatives.
  • Facilitate scientific collaboration between investigators and internal clinical development teams while maintaining appropriate separation from operational trial management.
  • Support investigator-sponsored research (ISR), post-marketing studies, real-world evidence initiatives, and collaborative scientific research opportunities.
  • Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of clinical trial design, Good Clinical Practice (GCP), and clinical research methodology.

Medical Education and Scientific Communication

  • Deliver scientific and educational presentations to healthcare professionals and internal stakeholders on disease state, radiopharmaceuticals, oncology, diagnostic imaging, clinical evidence, and emerging data.
  • Support advisory boards, speaker development, educational initiatives, scientific roundtables, and medical education programs.
  • Provide constructive scientific feedback regarding presentation accuracy, scientific content, and compliance with company policies.
  • Serve as a scientific resource to internal cross-functional teams by providing therapeutic area expertise and medical education.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Collaborate effectively with Medical Affairs, Clinical Development, Commercial, Regulatory Affairs, Market Access, Pharmacovigilance, Health Economics, Professional Promotions, and other cross-functional partners.
  • Share appropriate clinical, scientific, and technical information in a timely manner to support organizational objectives.
  • Contribute scientific expertise to product launches, lifecycle management activities, publication planning, evidence generation, and strategic initiatives.

Compliance and Pharmacovigilance

  • Fully understand and comply with Lantheus Pharmacovigilance procedures, including timely identification, documentation, and reporting of adverse events and product quality complaints.
  • Conduct all activities in accordance with the Lantheus Code of Conduct, Medical Affairs policies, OIG Guidance, PhRMA Code, Good Clinical Practice (GCP), HIPAA requirements, FDA regulations, and all applicable legal and ethical standards.
  • Accurately document scientific interactions, field medical activities, and medical insights using approved systems and processes.
  • Maintain current knowledge of evolving scientific literature, treatment guidelines, regulatory requirements, and compliance expectations.

Basic Qualifications

  • PhD, PharmD, MD, DO, or equivalent advanced scientific or clinical degree required.
  • Minimum of two years of Medical Science Liaison or Medical Affairs experience preferred.
  • Clinical or scientific experience in therapeutics area, nuclear medicine, radiopharmaceuticals, molecular imaging, or diagnostic imaging preferred.
  • Demonstrated understanding of current and emerging trends in therapeutic area, radiopharmaceuticals, precision medicine, and diagnostic imaging.
  • Strong scientific acumen with the ability to critically evaluate and communicate complex clinical and scientific information.
  • Proven ability to establish and maintain credible scientific relationships with healthcare professionals and external experts.
  • Demonstrated leadership within cross-functional teams and the ability to collaborate effectively across multiple business functions.
  • Excellent verbal, written, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Highly organized with demonstrated ability to independently manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced knowledge of therapeutic area, radiopharmaceuticals, molecular imaging, and precision medicine.
  • Strong familiarity with key clinical publications, treatment guidelines, and evolving scientific literature.
  • In-depth understanding of clinical trial design, clinical development, and evidence generation.
  • Knowledge of investigator-sponsored research, real-world evidence, and post-marketing research.
  • Understanding of pharmacoeconomic principles and healthcare value evidence.
  • Advanced knowledge of the U.S. healthcare system, reimbursement environment, and medical imaging industry.
  • Experience supporting scientific congresses and advisory boards.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and CRM/documentation platforms.
  • Ability to travel approximately 70% within the assigned geography.
  • Residence near a major international airport preferred.

The pay range for this position is between $156,000 and $234,000 annually.

Actual base pay offered may vary depending on a number of factors such as job-related knowledge, skills and experience. Employees in this position are eligible for a discretionary performance-based cash incentive. Benefits for this position include a comprehensive health benefits package that includes medical, prescription drug, dental, and vision coverage. Other offerings include life and disability benefits, pre-tax accounts, a 401(k) with company contribution, and a variety of other benefits.
