This is an exciting opportunity to use your experience helping the DEVCOM CBC mission. In this mission we support DEVCOM CBC in basic and applied research, development, testing, and evaluation efforts to support the U.S. Warfighter and ensure our Warfighters maintain battlefield dominance during a chemical and/or biological event. Primary Responsibilities Specific efforts will include: Leading a team in analysis of chemical materials, development and characterization of novel materials to include polymers and thermoplastics and testing, evaluation, and modeling materials against traditional chemical warfare agents, non-traditional agents, and toxic industrial chemicals (TICs) and toxic industrial materials (TIMs). The Materials Science Subject Matter Expert subject matter expert (SME) will work supporting the DEVCOM CBC Principal Investigator and other research scientists, chemists, and engineers. Basic Qualifications Ph.D. in Material Science, Chemistry, Engineering or other equivalent scientific fields with 20 or more years of prior relevant experience. Must be a U.S Citizen. Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Defense Secret Clearance with potential for Top Secret Clearance. Must demonstrate successful experience in: o 1.) Functioning as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in performing research and development in areas of polymer and thermoplastic developmento 2.) Highly experienced in using technologies and applications such as melt spinning, melt rheology, dynamic scanning calorimeter, ASTM mechanical testing, and microscopy to include scanning electron microscopy (SEM)o 3.) Expertise in filtration technologies for particulate capture and measurement and familiarity with N95 and High Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) development. Preferred Qualifications. Demonstrated expertise in organic synthesis, ability to conduct computational fluid dynamic (CFD) modeling for vapors and particulates. Job Description

TheNon-Kinetic Effects Business Area, part of the Defense Sector at Leidos currently has an opening for a Materials Science Subject Matter Expert (SME) at the U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command – Chemical Biological Center (DEVCOM CBC) facility located at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland.

This is an exciting opportunity to use your experience helping the DEVCOM CBC  mission.  In this mission we support DEVCOM CBC in basic and applied research, development, testing, and evaluation efforts to support the U.S. Warfighter and ensure our Warfighters maintain battlefield dominance during a chemical and/or biological event. 

Primary Responsibilities

Specific efforts will include:

  • Leading a team in analysis of chemical materials, development and characterization of novel materials to include polymers and thermoplastics and testing, evaluation, and modeling materials against traditional chemical warfare agents, non-traditional agents, and toxic industrial chemicals (TICs) and toxic industrial materials (TIMs).
  • The Materials Science Subject Matter Expert subject matter expert (SME) will work supporting the DEVCOM CBC Principal Investigator and other research scientists, chemists, and engineers.

Basic Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Material Science, Chemistry, Engineering or other equivalent scientific fields with 20 or more years of prior relevant experience.
  • Must be a U.S Citizen.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Defense Secret Clearance with potential for Top Secret Clearance.
  •  Must demonstrate successful experience in: o    1.) Functioning as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in performing research and development in areas of polymer and thermoplastic developmento    2.) Highly experienced in using technologies and applications such as melt spinning, melt rheology, dynamic scanning calorimeter, ASTM mechanical testing, and microscopy to include scanning electron microscopy (SEM)o    3.) Expertise in filtration technologies for particulate capture and measurement and familiarity with N95 and High Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) development.

Preferred Qualifications.

  • Demonstrated expertise in organic synthesis, ability to conduct computational fluid dynamic (CFD) modeling for vapors and particulates. 
  • Experience in computer aided design (CAD) and knowledge of multilayer thermoplastics.
