OpenAISan Francisco, California
About the Team The Workload team is responsible for designing and running OpenAI’s LLM training and inference infrastructure that powers frontier models at massive scale. Our systems unify how researchers train and serve models, abstracting away the complexity of performance, parallelism, and execution across vast GPU/accelerator fleets. By providing this foundation, the Workload team ensures that researchers can focus on advancing model capabilities while we handle the scale, efficiency, and reliability required to bring those models to life. About the Role We are looking for an engineer to design and implement the dataset infrastructure that powers OpenAI’s next-generation training stack. You will be responsible for building standardized dataset interfaces, scaling pipelines across thousands of GPUs, and proactively testing performance bottlenecks. In this role, you will collaborate closely with the multimodal researchers, and other infra groups to ensure datasets are unified, efficient, and easy to consume. In this role, you will: Design and maintain standardized dataset APIs, including for multimodal (MM) data that cannot fit in memory. Build proactive testing and scale validation pipelines for dataset loading at GPU scale. Collaborate with teammates to integrate datasets seamlessly into training and inference pipelines, ensuring smooth adoption and a great user experience. Document and maintain dataset interfaces so they are discoverable, consistent, and easy for other teams to adopt. Establish safeguards and validation systems to ensure datasets remain reproducible and unchanged once standardized. Debug and resolve performance bottlenecks in distributed dataset loading (e.g., straggler systems slowing global training). Provide visualization and inspection tools to surface errors, bugs, or bottlenecks in datasets. You might thrive in this role if you: Have strong engineering fundamentals with experience in distributed systems, data pipelines, or infrastructure. Have experience building APIs, modular code, and scalable abstractions, while recognizing that abstractions ultimately serve the users and UX is an important part of the abstractions design. Are comfortable debugging bottlenecks across large fleets of machines. Take pride in building infrastructure that “just works,” and find joy in being the guardian of reliability and scale. Are collaborative, humble, and excited to own a foundational (if not glamorous) part of the ML stack. Bonus points if you: Have background knowledge in data math, probability, or distributed data theory. Have worked with GPU-scale distributed systems or dataset scaling for real-time data About OpenAI OpenAI is an AI research and deployment company dedicated to ensuring that general-purpose artificial intelligence benefits all of humanity. #DS-AVN Our client, a pioneer in reshaping consumer credit using innovative technology, is committed to reducing capital costs. They strongly believe in universal access to capital, crucial in today's capital-based economy, with over $1 trillion in unsecured credit card revolving balances. The journey of credit cards since the '60s, culminating in balances exceeding $1 trillion in 50 years, reveals the existing challenges. Unsecured credit, despite its efficiency in quick underwriting and access to capital in 1-3 days, comes at a high cost (15-25% APR). Conversely, secured capital involves high origination costs and prolonged processes (weeks in underwriting, months for access) but offers cheaper rates (<10% APR). Innovating the credit landscape, our client introduced a new asset-backed credit card, securing equity in homes, cars, and other assets. This innovation allows them to offer remarkably low APRs to consumers. Their flagship product boasts the world's lowest APR credit card, aiming to change the credit paradigm. Funding: Backed by substantial equity funding of over $250 million, our client comprises a well-capitalized team comprising technology (Microsoft, Facebook) and finance (Square, Discover, CapitalOne, Goldman) experts. With top-tier investors like Founders Fund, Khosla Ventures, Caffeinated Capital, Max Levchin, NYCA, and Sequoia, our client continues to lead the charge in transforming consumer credit. Additionally, they recently secured Series D funding, further solidifying their position in this innovative endeavor. Role: Data Scientist Join a dynamic startup that's pioneering innovative paths in technology across multiple sectors. We are seeking a highly skilled Data Scientist who thrives on analyzing and deriving insights from complex data sets to drive product strategy and business decisions. In this role, you will collaborate closely with diverse teams, including Product, Engineering, Marketing, Sales, Finance, and Data Science, to develop and implement data-driven strategies that enhance product performance and customer satisfaction. Responsibilities: Partner with cross-functional teams to influence product strategies using advanced analytical and scientific methods. Utilize statistical, machine learning, and econometric models on large datasets to measure outcomes, identify causal impacts, and attribute effects. Predict future performance of users or products using robust data-driven methodologies. Design, implement, and launch innovative data science solutions to bolster decision-making at all levels. Analyze experiment results and interpret data to refine product offerings and strategies. Develop and monitor key performance metrics for products, ensuring data accuracy and actionable insights. Lead the enhancement of data collection practices and refine existing data to improve overall data quality. Who Should Apply: Individuals with over 5 years of data science experience and demonstrated thought leadership in the field.
