The Mathematics, Statistics and Data Science Department, housed within Loyola Marymount University's College of Science and Engineering, is an inclusive community of 21 full-time faculty members and approximately 70 undergraduate mathematics majors, about half of which are statistics and data science majors, 55 minors, and 10 Master of Arts in Teaching Mathematics students. The department offers several Bachelor's degree options and minors, including both a Bachelor of Science in Statistics and Data Science and a minor in Statistics and Data Science. Faculty in the department work in many areas of pure and applied mathematics, statistics, and data science, in an atmosphere of mutual respect and collaboration. We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Manager with people management experience and hands-on development skills. In this player-coach role, you will be responsible for managing a team of data scientists, while also working closely with cross-functional teams to develop and implement data-driven solutions that contribute to business growth. This role requires a strong analytical & statistical programming background and a passion for mentoring and growing teams.

Your Success Profile

What You Will Work On

  • Lead and develop a team of data scientists, fostering their professional growth through goal-setting, feedback, and recognition.
  • Guide your team in developing and implementing data-driven models, systems, and insights that power product experiences, revenue growth, and operational efficiency.
  • Manage project priorities and timelines for your team, ensuring the timely delivery of rigorous, impactful solutions.
  • Collaborate with Data & Analytics leadership and cross-functional teams (including Product, Engineering, and Operations teams) to understand requirements and translate them into executable data science projects.
  • Contribute to the data science roadmap by identifying opportunities and executing projects leveraging machine learning, predictive modeling, and other advanced data science techniques.
  • Uphold and contribute to best practices for data science product development processes, tools, and methodologies within your team to deliver iteratively and efficiently.
  • Build relationships with cross-functional leads to promote the adoption of new methods, technologies, and data products that help Justworks scale.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years in data science, with hands-on experience developing data-driven models, algorithms, and systems
  • 2+ years in people management, with a proven track record of developing and managing high-performing teams
  • Proficiency in Python or R and SQL
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work with complex datasets to extract insights
  • Excellent oral & written communication skills and strong ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize effectively, and meet deadlines

The base wage range for this position based in our New York City Office is targeted at $205,000.00 to $225,500.00 year

Actual compensation is based on multiple factors that are unique to each candidate, including and not limited to skill set, level of relevant experience, and specific work location. Salary ranges for positions based in other locations may differ based on the cost of labor in that location.
