Position Title: Lab Technician Reports To: Lab Manager & Metallurgist Supervises : None Classification: Salaried, exempt, non-union Essential Duties & Responsibilities : The statements below are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by the employee of this position.  They are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all responsibilities and activities required of this position. Conduct laboratory work with Copper, Aluminum, Titanium, Superalloys, Specialty Steels, and other engineered materials.   Operate laboratory equipment for sectioning, mounting, polishing, and preparing metallographic samples for the regular standalone mounted samples. Prepare metallographic samples using field equipment (In-Situ Metallography) Prepare various samples for chemical analysis (OES, ICP, CGA, etc.) Prepare mechanical testing specimens using CNC lathe, polishers, etc. (Stress rupture, creep, fatigue, room temperature/elevated temperature/cryogenic tensile, impact, and others). Conduct metallurgical testing on various ferrous and nonferrous alloys (metallography, room temperature tensile testing, spark OES, Hardness, etc.) Prepare and mix etchants under the guidance of Lab Supervisor/Lab Manager. Assist Lab Metallurgists in day-to-day work. Generate test reports using LIMS software for review by Lab Manager/Director. Participate in failure analysis/metallurgical investigations. Participate and/or assist in industry research relevant to the forging and Aerospace industry. Verify equipment is calibrated before testing. Interact with Engineers, Metallurgists, Production crew and others in management on projects. Operate testing equipment (like chemical, mechanical and metallographic) and perform testing per standard procedures. Record all data and results in a specified manner per instructions from the Lab Supervisor. Maintain laboratory environment in a safe, clean, and orderly manner. Work with customers on an as-needed basis. Perform systematic receipt, labeling and analysis of laboratory samples and maintain identity and traceability through process. Properly store and retrieve samples per customer requirements. Organize and store all chemicals substances, fluids, and compressed gases according to safety instructions.
