As an active member of Facilities Management, this position will support the Zoo’s mission and advocate the Zoo’s core values and three keys. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The following reflects Management’s definition of essential functions for this position but does not restrict additional assigned tasks. Management may assign or reassign duties and responsibilities to this position. Perform masonry and concrete work such as the building, altering and repairing of brick, limestone, CMU, terra cotta, structures or surfaces, shotcrete, foundations, footings, and flatwork. Utilize the CMMS work order system for work scheduling, preventative maintenance programs and record keeping. Ensure that proper safety guidelines and usage of PPE are followed at all times. Know and understand the Zoo employee handbook and adhere to all stated disciplinary actions and personnel policies. Work in close collaboration with all Zoo internal departments. Perform other duties as assigned. The Mason will work closely with a team that fabricates and repairs animal enrichment tools, exhibit structures and themed artificial elements such as trees, vines and rocks using a variety of materials such as concrete, mortar, fiberglass, and epoxy. It is required that applicants be open to learning how to apply their existing skillset to the environmental theming found throughout the Zoo. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervision of other employees is not a responsibility of this position. QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or equivalent required. Minimum three years of experience in a related field required. Carpentry experience preferred. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and other technical documents. Possession or the ability to obtain OSHA 10/30-Hour Training certification. Commitment to excellence and high standards. Good attendance record and work ethic. Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm. The candidate must have a High School Diploma and three or more years of water/wastewater heavy civil project experience. NASSCO PACP certification, Water Distribution Operator license, and 40 hour OSHA training is a plus. A valid driver's license is required. As a Technician I, you will be responsible for the diagnosis, repair, and maintenance of a variety of diesel-powered vehicles and equipment, ensuring their safe and efficient operation. You will play a critical role in keeping customer and company owned equipment running smoothly by performing routine maintenance tasks, conducting inspections, and perform repairs as directed with efficiency and accuracy per company standards.

Business Operating Hours/Schedule: Monday through Friday 7:30 am - 5:00 pm

 

What You’ll Do:

  • Diagnose and repair basic mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems — from engines to transmissions, you’ll learn it all! 
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance — daily inspections, greasing, fluid checks, and more to keep equipment rental-ready.
  • Read and interpret operating manuals, parts manuals, blueprints, and technical drawings with confidence
  • Follow strict safety policies to maintain a clean, safe workplace (PPE included).
  • Grow your skills with hands-on training and teamwork across Parts, Service, Sales, and Rental departments. 
  • Meet performance goals for productivity, quality, and safety while supporting your supervisor.

 

What You Bring:

  • High School Diploma, GED, Technical or Trade School
  • Completion of a technical program, apprenticeship, or a combination of training and hands-on experience.
  • Ability to work independently with close supervision and guidance as you grow your skills
