The Mary Campbell Center is first, last, and always, home to 68 residents. The Physical Development Specialist is responsible for leading the Center's physical development team in ensuring these services are delivered with a high degree of quality in a truly homelike environment in which MCC residents live with respect, personal dignity, and independence to the fullness of their abilities. The Physical Development Specialist is charged with planning, implementing and supervising a diversified set of physical development programs suited to the unique needs, abilities and interests of permanent and respite residents while adhering to the MCC Guiding Principles and Mission. The Physical Development Specialist must work reliably, effectively, efficiently, and with respect for residents, staff, families, volunteers, professional consultants, and the physical environment of the Center.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

The Physical Development Specialist at the Mary Campbell Center must 1) be a good person of high character who consistently works with a positive attitude and demonstrates compassion and understanding for residents with varying degrees of disability, and 2) possess a Bachelor's degree in Physical Education, Therapeutic Recreation or a related discipline. The Physical Development Specialist must have the ability to motivate participation, generate enthusiasm, create appropriate programs and be capable of effectively supervising and training staff and volunteers. The Physical Development Specialist must hold current lifeguard, CPR and first aid certifications and possess the ability to lift and transfer an adult by utilizing safe lifting procedures per MCC policy when required. The Physical Development Specialist must hold a valid driver's license. In addition, he/she should possess verbal and written communication skills, and proficiency in utilizing technology tools to effectively manage program reporting and achieve department goals. Previous successful experience working with those with disabilities and/or in a rehabilitative setting is preferred.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Plans, organizes and implements a diverse set of Physical Development programs suited to the unique needs, abilities and interests of residents and respite care participants.
2. Remains aware of resident's physical abilities/limitations/changes in medical situations and reports any change in resident's condition to the Neighborhood Nurse.
3. Ensures resident's care needs are met during all activities conducted under auspices of the Activities Department both within The Mary Campbell Center and at external events.
4. Evaluates and compiles resident's participation data.
5. Documents per policy on resident's attendance and IPP goal progress.
6. Attends IPP meetings as requested and provide resident &/or responsible party status updates.
7. Periodically develops quarterly exercise incentive programs
8. Maintains exercise equipment, including service calls cleaning.
9. Assists with quality assurance audits of Aquatic/PD Department.
10. Completes assigned performance appraisals in collaboration with the Assistant Executive Director.
11. Makes recommendations for annual budget needs and supplies.
12. Assist with the planning and implementation MAPTs, 5K, Camp Fairlee, Family Visits or any special event program offered to support residents recreational or physical well-being.
13. Ensures trip protocols are followed and completed in accordance with Policy and Procedures.
14. Ensures positive public relations with community volunteers and organizations by choosing appropriate written and verbal techniques.
15. Brings any safety hazards to the attention of the Assistant Executive Director or appropriate department head.
16. Completes all mandatory in-services and attends staff meetings as required.
17. Performs other duties as assigned
