Job Summary: The key role of the Technical Regulatory Compliance Engineering Specialist is that of principal contributor on a design or CPPD team responsible for development of safety and compliance related aspects of a product, process or both. This position contributes to Enterprise regulatory compliance teams, develops solutions for complex technical engineering problems, and may be accountable for the design or improvement of complex systems or processes. Considerations For Top Candidates: Strong understanding of embedded control systems derived from engineering development or validation experience with mobile machines. Experience with machinery functional safety standards such as ISO 19014 or ISO 13849 is highly preferred. Consideration will be given for experience with other functional safety standards, such as ISO 25119, ISO 26262 or others. Effective communication, spatial and conceptual design skills, and an understanding of customers' needs and product application. Experience with international standards development organizations and operating earth-moving machinery Control system experience with technologies such as electrification, autonomy, SOTIF or artificial intelligence / AI. Proficiency using SISTEMA or similar safety-related control system analysis tools. Understand complex technical problems and demonstrate the ability to develop creative solutions. Technical leadership skills are essential. Though the focus of the job is technical contribution, project management skills may be required. Strong analytical and technical skills, with a deep understanding of complex engineering concepts and applications. Proven ability to communicate technical information effectively across teams, customers, and suppliers, along with demonstrated leadership and initiative. Staff Safety Design Engineer This Staff-level role is central to Redwood's mission of operational safety, responsible for leading and implementing robust process safety management practices across engineering, operations, and maintenance teams. The successful candidate will be a recognized expert in Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs), Task-Based Risk Assessments (TBRAs), and People Safety Risk Assessments (PSRAs). They will serve as a core technical resource to ensure the safe design, startup, and operation of chemical and mechanical processes across Redwood's facilities. The bulk of this work will focus on reviewing designs for new equipment, conducting risk assessments on those designs, and providing critical feedback to the Process Engineering team to ensure conformance with Redwood's internal safety and engineering standards. Standardization of process safety approaches, tools, and documentation across the organization is also a key component of this role. The position requires a strong foundation in process engineering with demonstrated ability to apply safety principles in complex, high-hazard environments. Mechanical / Industrial / Electrical Engineering or other Engineering focus is acceptable with significant relevant experience. Fire Protection Engineers, with demonstrated process safety experience may also be considered. 5-10+ years of relevant experience in industrial process & / or process safety engineering. Leveling (Associate, Senior, Staff, etc.) will be commensurate with experience. Proven track record leading PHAs and conducting formal risk assessments. Direct experience in a process engineering role required. Experience in the battery, specialty chemical, or energy industry is a strong plus. Expertise in PHA methodologies (HAZOP, LOPA, FMEA). Familiarity with SIS design, functional safety (IEC 61511), and control system hazards. Experience with relief systems, dispersion modeling, or consequence analysis is a plus. Job Summary:

The key role of the Technical Regulatory Compliance Engineering Specialist is that of principal contributor on a design or CPPD team responsible for development of safety and compliance related aspects of a product, process or both. This position contributes to Enterprise regulatory compliance teams, develops solutions for complex technical engineering problems, and may be accountable for the design or improvement of complex systems or processes.

Specific duties include understanding, interpreting and participating in the development of various international standards, engaging in advocacy efforts on regulatory policies, conducting training for internal product system or component teams, facilitating control system safety assessments and product safety risk assessments, participating in design reviews and consulting with engineering design teams, auditing hardware and software assessments and participating in projects to further improve efficiency of the work group.

  • This position is focused on providing Control System Functional Safety and Machinery Product Safety Risk Assessment support.
  • Contributes to Enterprise regulatory compliance and safety teams, as well as committees or groups outside of the company.
  • This role has several peers performing similar activities in support of all Caterpillar products, who all report to a Functional Safety and Risk Assessment manager in Caterpillar's Product Compliance and Support organization.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to develop and perform on a complex project or program.

  • Strong understanding of embedded control systems derived from engineering development or validation experience with mobile machines.
  • Experience with machinery functional safety standards such as ISO 19014 or ISO 13849 is highly preferred. Consideration will be given for experience with other functional safety standards, such as ISO 25119, ISO 26262 or others.
  • Effective communication, spatial and conceptual design skills, and an understanding of customers' needs and product application.
  • Experience with international standards development organizations and operating earth-moving machinery
  • Control system experience with technologies such as electrification, autonomy, SOTIF or artificial intelligence / AI.
  • Proficiency using SISTEMA or similar safety-related control system analysis tools.
  • Understand complex technical problems and demonstrate the ability to develop creative solutions.
  • Technical leadership skills are essential.
  • Though the focus of the job is technical contribution, project management skills may be required.
  • Strong analytical and technical skills, with a deep understanding of complex engineering concepts and applications.
  • Proven ability to communicate technical information effectively across teams, customers, and suppliers, along with demonstrated leadership and initiative.

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Agricultural, or Controls Engineering, or Computer Science from an accredited college or university
  • Control System Functional Safety Certification from an accredited agency or will be trained and seek this certification during the assignment.
