Job Description: The Safety Manager is responsible for reducing and eliminating hazardous working conditions or unsafe employee activities by planning, implementing and supervising safety, accident/injury and fire protection programs on all projects, facilities, and work sites for the Company. The Safety Manager is responsible for training employees on health and safety protocols. In this role, you must be detail-oriented, have excellent communication skills, and extensive knowledge of health and safety regulations. The Safety Manager will be responsible for creating an environment where safety is the priority and all employees lead with safety. A Day in the Life Manages the construction, facility, fleet and field operation safety compliance issues for Veit to maintain the health and safety of all field personnel. Investigates all safety incidents, near misses, workers compensation issues and property damage, determines root cause, and provides the necessary mitigation, communication, and training as a result of the findings. Performs in-house training related to site safety and safety related regulations. Writes site-specific safety programs. Prepares Health and Safety Plans. Performs site safety audits on a regular basis and provides coaching and training, where needed. Assists field personnel in complying with OSHA, EPA, MDH, MPCA, DOT and other regulations. Ensures required records and reports are complete, accurate and submitted in accordance with established Company procedures. Maintains and distributes air monitoring instruments. Conducts safety orientations for new employees, new supervisors and subcontractors. Analyzes needs and determines specifications for protective safety equipment, materials and gear. Proactively seeks new ways to improve overall safety performance and employee well-being in the field. Assists management in generating new policies and/or procedures related to safety. Stays abreast of industry trends and regulations, maintains certifications, and seeks continuous avenues for department growth and improvement. Keeps supervisor informed of known actions, written or verbal, which may affect the ability to successfully perform assignments or adversely affect Company operations. Other projects or duties as requested by management. Provide back up support and coverage for the Safety Coordinator. What You'll Need 5-7+ years' experience working within the construction, waste, and/or transportation industries. OSHA 30 Certification. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams). Working knowledge of safety/environmental principles and techniques. Ability to define problems, collect and document data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of situations and events and respond accordingly. Ability to seek counsel, when needed, from appropriate resources. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with coworkers, management, subcontractors, regulatory agencies, etc. Ability to maintain compliance with all Veit policies and procedures. What Will Set You Apart Bachelor's degree (B.A. or B.S) from accredited four-year college or university in a safety & health related discipline. Working knowledge of Construction, Waste, and Transportation industries. Advanced Safety Certificate(s) (OHST, CHST, CSP). OSHA 500 Certification. Confined Space, HAZWOPER, DOT, and MSHA training. Class A or B Commercial Driver's License and current medical card. Comprehensive knowledge of driver qualifications files. About the Role As a Functional Safety Engineer, you will lead functional safety design and verification initiatives of robotic systems and support regulatory compliance for North America, European, and Japanese markets. A Day in the Life

  • Manages the construction, facility, fleet and field operation safety compliance issues for Veit to maintain the health and safety of all field personnel.

  • Investigates all safety incidents, near misses, workers compensation issues and property damage, determines root cause, and provides the necessary mitigation, communication, and training as a result of the findings.

  • Performs in-house training related to site safety and safety related regulations.

  • Writes site-specific safety programs. Prepares Health and Safety Plans.

  • Performs site safety audits on a regular basis and provides coaching and training, where needed.

  • Assists field personnel in complying with OSHA, EPA, MDH, MPCA, DOT and other regulations.

  • Ensures required records and reports are complete, accurate and submitted in accordance with established Company procedures.

  • Maintains and distributes air monitoring instruments.

  • Conducts safety orientations for new employees, new supervisors and subcontractors.

  • Analyzes needs and determines specifications for protective safety equipment, materials and gear.

  • Proactively seeks new ways to improve overall safety performance and employee well-being in the field.

  • Assists management in generating new policies and/or procedures related to safety.

  • Stays abreast of industry trends and regulations, maintains certifications, and seeks continuous avenues for department growth and improvement.

  • Keeps supervisor informed of known actions, written or verbal, which may affect the ability to successfully perform assignments or adversely affect Company operations.

  • Other projects or duties as requested by management.

  • Provide back up support and coverage for the Safety Coordinator.

What You'll Need

  • 5-7+ years' experience working within the construction, waste, and/or transportation industries.

  • OSHA 30 Certification.

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams).

  • Working knowledge of safety/environmental principles and techniques.

  • Ability to define problems, collect and document data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of situations and events and respond accordingly.

  • Ability to seek counsel, when needed, from appropriate resources.

  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with coworkers, management, subcontractors, regulatory agencies, etc.

  • Ability to maintain compliance with all Veit policies and procedures.
