We are seeking a Functional Safety Engineer with hands-on capability on software (ISO 26262:2018 Part 6), and strong supporting knowledge in systems (Part 4) and hardware (Part 5) development activities for embedded automotive systems. This role is integral to ensuring our products meet the highest functional safety standards for safety-critical applications of our battery systems. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to design, develop, verify and validate safety-relevant components aligned with ASIL targets. WHAT YOU'LL BRING: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Embedded Systems or related field with 6+ years of experience in embedded systems development in the automotive domain. Functional experience in Part 4 (System Level) and Part 5 (Hardware Level) safety lifecycles, and direct experience implementing the software safety lifecycle per ISO 26262 Part 6 (preferably ASIL C or D projects). Strong knowledge of C/C++, RTOS concepts and embedded microcontrollers/processors (e.g., ARM, Infineon AURIX). Proficient in safety-relevant coding standards (e.g., MISRA-C, CERT-C), quality coding guidelines (e.g., HIS metrics) and static code analysis tools (e.g., PC-lint, Polyspace, QAC). Hands-on experience with software safety mechanisms (e.g., watchdog, software lockstep, ECC, CRC, memory protection, timeout monitors). Experience in Safety Analysis techniques like FMEA, FTA, SW-FMEDA and Diagnostic Coverage calculations at system, hardware and especially software levels. Familiar with configuration and ALM tools like Polarion, Jama, IBM DOORS Next, Git and Jenkins; experience with unit testing, integration testing and back-to-back testing tools (e.g., VectorCAST, Tessy, Reactis, Simulink). Experience in creating and ensuring full compliance to bi-directional traceability, and strong communication skills for cross-functional collaboration. WHAT YOU'LL DO: Define and maintain Software Safety Plans and coordinate with system safety to ensure consistency with Part 4 and Part 5. Lead and execute ISO 26262 Part 6 activities throughout the software safety lifecycle: from concept, software specification, architecture and design through implementation and verification. Derive software safety requirements from the technical safety requirements and allocate them across software components. Develop and document software architecture in compliance with ISO 26262 requirements, ensuring proper ASIL tailoring and traceability. Implement safety mechanisms and design patterns to detect, mitigate or avoid safety-related software faults. Conduct and support Safety Analysis (SW-FMEA, DFA, FTA) at software architectural and unit levels, and contribute to system and hardware safety analyses. Collaborate with hardware, systems and test teams to align on interface definitions, diagnostic handling and error reaction strategies, particularly concerning software-hardware interaction. Develop test cases for unit and integration levels, including fault injection and robustness testing. Support tool qualification efforts for safety-related development tools used in the software toolchain. Participate in functional safety assessments and audits, including documentation preparation and presentation to assessors. Mentor team members in ISO 26262 software safety principles and best practices. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience developing software for ASIL D programs in powertrain, BMS or ADAS domains. Hands-on experience with AUTOSAR Classic or Adaptive platform. Proficiency in model-based development (MBD) using MATLAB/Simulink/Stateflow with safety code generation and back-to-back testing. Familiarity with safety analysis tools such as Medini Analyze, Ansys Medini, EB Tresos Safety or IBM Rhapsody. Prior participation in external safety assessments or formal confirmation reviews with OEM or assessor bodies (e.g., TÜV, UL, Exida). POSITION SUMMARY: The safety specialist is responsible for field safety compliance, safety training and practices, OSHA compliance and conducting safety audits/job site inspections. We are seeking a Functional Safety Engineer with hands-on capability on software (ISO 26262:2018 Part 6), and strong supporting knowledge in systems (Part 4) and hardware (Part 5) development activities for embedded automotive systems. This role is integral to ensuring our products meet the highest functional safety standards for safety-critical applications of our battery systems. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to design, develop, verify and validate safety-relevant components aligned with ASIL targets.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Embedded Systems or related field with 6+ years of experience in embedded systems development in the automotive domain.
  • Functional experience in Part 4 (System Level) and Part 5 (Hardware Level) safety lifecycles, and direct experience implementing the software safety lifecycle per ISO 26262 Part 6 (preferably ASIL C or D projects).
  • Strong knowledge of C/C++, RTOS concepts and embedded microcontrollers/processors (e.g., ARM, Infineon AURIX).
  • Proficient in safety-relevant coding standards (e.g., MISRA-C, CERT-C), quality coding guidelines (e.g., HIS metrics) and static code analysis tools (e.g., PC-lint, Polyspace, QAC).
  • Hands-on experience with software safety mechanisms (e.g., watchdog, software lockstep, ECC, CRC, memory protection, timeout monitors).
  • Experience in Safety Analysis techniques like FMEA, FTA, SW-FMEDA and Diagnostic Coverage calculations at system, hardware and especially software levels.
  • Familiar with configuration and ALM tools like Polarion, Jama, IBM DOORS Next, Git and Jenkins; experience with unit testing, integration testing and back-to-back testing tools (e.g., VectorCAST, Tessy, Reactis, Simulink).
  • Experience in creating and ensuring full compliance to bi-directional traceability, and strong communication skills for cross-functional collaboration.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

  • Define and maintain Software Safety Plans and coordinate with system safety to ensure consistency with Part 4 and Part 5.
  • Lead and execute ISO 26262 Part 6 activities throughout the software safety lifecycle: from concept, software specification, architecture and design through implementation and verification.
  • Derive software safety requirements from the technical safety requirements and allocate them across software components.
  • Develop and document software architecture in compliance with ISO 26262 requirements, ensuring proper ASIL tailoring and traceability.
  • Implement safety mechanisms and design patterns to detect, mitigate or avoid safety-related software faults.
  • Conduct and support Safety Analysis (SW-FMEA, DFA, FTA) at software architectural and unit levels, and contribute to system and hardware safety analyses.
  • Collaborate with hardware, systems and test teams to align on interface definitions, diagnostic handling and error reaction strategies, particularly concerning software-hardware interaction.
  • Develop test cases for unit and integration levels, including fault injection and robustness testing.
  • Support tool qualification efforts for safety-related development tools used in the software toolchain.
  • Participate in functional safety assessments and audits, including documentation preparation and presentation to assessors.
  • Mentor team members in ISO 26262 software safety principles and best practices.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience developing software for ASIL D programs in powertrain, BMS or ADAS domains.
  • Hands-on experience with AUTOSAR Classic or Adaptive platform.
  • Proficiency in model-based development (MBD) using MATLAB/Simulink/Stateflow with safety code generation and back-to-back testing.
  • Familiarity with safety analysis tools such as Medini Analyze, Ansys Medini, EB Tresos Safety or IBM Rhapsody.
  • Prior participation in external safety assessments or formal confirmation reviews with OEM or assessor bodies (e.g., TÜV, UL, Exida).
